For many, the mention of a bard conjures the humble image of a jovial performer of story and song. A wry traveler plying their trade with strumming lutes, drinking songs, and humorous limericks for the road weary and battle-hardened in roadside inns and taverns across the world. Whether they be skilled musicians, masterful storytellers, keepers of lore, or skilled with the blade, bards (and their bardic colleges) are as varied as the songs and stories they weave.

However, there is a collective of bards who choose to walk another path. They have heard the call of the deep power chords echoing on the lightning from the mountain tops, harmonized with the guttural, blood-soaked chants of the war priests on an endless battlefield, and immersed their souls in the melodic orchestras of the darkness.

They have embraced Metal.

This bardic college focuses on new abilities and themes to bring the power of heavy metal to bards in the world of D&D. The college and rules are pulled from my own home campaigns and retooled for 5e to make it more accessible. I will be watching, reading, and adjusting as needed and I hope you enjoy the College of Metal.

I assume that Lemmy Kilmister would be the patron saint of the Bards of Metal

For Harbinger of Storms, that equates to two castings of Call Lightning in one turn, correct?

Question about Master of Metal: is the expended bardic inspiration in addition to the spell slot, or instead of it? I read it as instead of, but five castings of call lightning per short rest seems excessive

Absolutely fantastic addition to the bard class, and makes me want to roll one up as my next character. In 30 years of playing D&D I've played every class available, except a bard. It just didn't appeal to me since I couldn't really connect with the concept, or come up with a memorable character hook. This changes things, immensely. Given how relatively balanced this addition is, I am sure my DM and play group are about to get a character they will never forget.

I am so freakin' excited about this!!! Our current campaign is my first foray into DM'ing. It's been an awesome learning experience for me; however, my wife is about to give birth to our daughter so we'll have to put our Tales from the Yawning Portal expedition on hold. I've asked the group if they want to start a new one so that I can roll a Bard, which would be a first for me 8-)

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.
Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
