Hey Nathan

How would I go about running this for a group of lvl 16 characters of 4th level. Other than scaling the combat up would it work fine as is or would I need to make some changes.

Sorry for the late reply - been quite busy! Distance is relevant to the challenges in the module. If the PCs can traverse the slope to the mountain top very quickly then the threat of the dragon becomes significantly less. Being dropped off a cliff will be a problem to level 8s but not level 16's in the same way. The combat guide refers to the dragon picking up and dropping PCs to a) cause damage and b) disrupt their positioning and action economy. It's easy to fix though, just add lava to the the bottom. Likewise, teleporting out the goblin city could render any escape section void. Secondly, environemental hazards, such as the fumes in the volcano throat and the unstable goblin pathways won't pose any issue for level 16 PCs. In these instances I would include magical hazards and increase the scale of the volcano.

All in all, I think for a level 16 team, that volcano needs to start erupting!

I'm not sure if you mean 16 x lvl 4, or 4 x lvl 16 PCs. For 16 x lvl 4 the dragon is going to kill swathes of them as soon as it uses its fire breath. I'd probably replace the dragon with a nest of wymlings for better action economy and a more stable, less 'swingy' combat. If you want to keep the draon I'd portion it's HP so that as certain damage milestones are passed the draon loses various abilities, such its wings get ripped up and it can't fly, its throat is injured and can no longer breath fire at full effect.

Do you have an estimated run time for the whole Thing?

I'd say about 6 to 12 hours depending on what choices the party make and how quickly your group plays. Thanks for the enquiry!

I like the CR breakdown it's a good addition that you don't see often (at all in my case) good to throw in Players faces when they cry after being TPK'd. "NOPE...it was your bad decisions not badly leveled, here read this!"

The follow up to the Crown of Fire, 'The King of Cindermak' is on the way but next up will be an undead tomb 'The Barrow of the BullKing'. I seem to have developed a naming convention ...

Sorry for the hold up on these but I'm aiming to move to full time DMing and adventure design soon so they should be up later in the year. Barrow of the Bull King is nearly done.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
