Reasonably good guide, however suggesting that a replacement for the CR13 stat block for Tiamat is the CR30 stat lock from another product is unreasonable. If people don't have the RoT stat block they are out of luck, not to mention that CR30 is too high for 10th level characters. Tiamat will need a lot of homebrew to come up with a suitable challenge.

Hi

I had a question about the Hobgoblin Veteran (p. 33 in your guide). Your entry said that it should be treated as a ”Veteran” (p. 350 in the MM), but I don't see any similarities to the Veteran in the stat block following this reference. Veterans seem to be much stronger monsters than Hobgoblin Veterans. Am I missing something? What is the link to the Veteran in the MM?

Thanks for making this guide. I've made some adjustments (simply out of personal preference), but overall I probably wouldn't have had the motivation to run one of my favourite adventures using 5e if it weren't for the existence of this guide. I do not have a problem with monsters being ”weaker” like one reviewer said. Personally, I'm not into long battles of attrition where monsters have lots of HP, but with hit dice it's easy to roll more HP if needed. I'm still at the beginning of the adventure, but well done so far!

The cliff notes were nice enough. But the custom stat blocks i found to be generally really underpowered. the CR is often way off. Take the final fight as an example: The PC's are assumed to be level 10. Four blue abishai and Azarr Kul, and PC's basically auto surprise. If the CR were correct (7 for abishai and 11 for azarr kul) this would be a very deadly encounter. The abishai are about 3 CR in reality, by DMG guidelines, and Azarr Kul is about a 7 CR. This makes it a barely deadly encounter for 4 PC's, without accounting for the guaranteed surprise. Pretty weak for the climax fight.

CR ratings are VERY arbitrary and WOTC has not set very clear guidelines on 5th edition, therefore it makes calculating these values difficult. In the end, having a CR rating is nice but not honestly all that important. DMs can easily adjust HP etc very quickly to suit their needs. All other stats in the guide make sense and work perfectly. That being said at some point I do wish to go back and polish the CRs, but as it stands the guide works fine. Giving it a rating of 2 stars for the CR being wonky seems a bit harsh in my opinion.

Can you list what this includes? Does it have full Stat blocks for all creatures and NPC's? Updated DC's and skill checks? Encounter tables? I'm about to start this with my group and if I can skip all of that I'd buy this guide. Thank you.

It has everything you'll need, however keep in mind that the treasures have been scaled down from the Monty Haul levels the original module had. I have even added stats for new magic items: Dragonchain, Dragonscourge, Dragoncraft Armor/Weapons, and the Staff of Stormclouds. That said, I highly recommend to have access to the Player's Handbook, Dungeon Master's Guide, the original Red Hand of Doom module, and for Monsters/NPCs: Rise of Tiamat , Tomb of Annihilation, Volo's guide to Monsters, and Xanathar's Guide to Everything.

I’ve got the PHB, DMG, XGtE, VGtM, and I have access to the original module. What does the Rise of Tiamat, and Tomb of Annihilation tomes have that would help?

Edit: Never mind, I see that your Guide is 42 pages. The module is 125+ pages. Your guide is cliff notes for parts of the module to bring it to 5e speed.
Not complaining, just trying to understand. Thank you for your efforts!

It's a big deal to rate this guide fair.
For some reason there are bad treasure blocks in guide, for example in the middle of original RHoD Part I after players taking Vraath Keep they will loot Staff of life (aka Staff of healing) that was specially placed by designers to resolve problem of resurrection and will help ‘em to endure future encounters while the guide suggests DM take ANY treasure from DMG treasure hoard that doesn't help to resolve this specific task. I thought that in conversion guide we will have some alternative of Staff of Life and other campaign “core magic items” of there is no such stuff. Also there is no particular prices info for magic items in shops, the guide just said there is the blacksmith and you can buy sword +1 or armor +1 in but no price or links to the source where DM could get it.
On the the hand it’s really-really nice monster conversation for Doom Clerics and other RHoD monsters, well designed encounter table and converted Skill checks DC that seem pretty...See more

"For some reason there are bad treasure blocks in guide, for example in the middle of original RHoD Part I after players taking Vraath Keep they will loot Staff of life (aka Staff of healing) "

There are no bad loot blocks in the guide. There are many items are are either no longer in the 5th edition universe or were taken out to balance the gameplay, such as the Staff of Life. As far as not finding prices, use the Player's Guide and Dungeon Master's Guides that list items. I made that very clear. It's only necessary to do that in the one major town. Every other place in the guide lists everything clearly, so I don't understand where that criticism is coming from, you should read the guide again.

This guide is more than just a "conversion" it's a work of balance using the 5th edition rules, while still trying to keep to the original flavor of the original text. I feel that we have accomplished this. So far all the feedback has been positive.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
