CCC-HATMS02-02 Something Vile This Way Comes

ADD TO WISHLIST >

A hunt for a mad illithid has brought startling and dire news to the Emerald Enclave and the Harpers. The call has gone out for heroes to follow on the trail of Klondros Imdree as he seeks a book of terrible power, and to stop him once and for all.
A 4-Hour Adventure for Tier 3 Characters. Optimized for APL 14.

Something Vile This Way Comes premiered at Holiday Around the Moonsea in November 2018, and is a tie-in adventure to CCC-HATMS02-01 Illithid Activity by Joel Marsh.  While players do not need to play through Illithid Activity, I of course recommend picking that module up for your Tier 2 players!

And check out the follow-up adventure, CCC-HATMS02-03 A Vile Wake!

Regarding the ritual (page 19-20), is there a prescribed number of rounds after which spell successfully reaches completion?

It seems to me the answer is longer than 1 minute of combat. Thus, it seems Klondram is predestined to leap through the vortex.

It is true, Matthew, Klondras has been planning for this for quite some time. It's less a matter of how long does the ritual last as much as the ritual is pretty much complete, or near enough that he can make his move. :)

Thanks for the question, I hope this helps!

Thanks Jeremy. It is the typical he wins if your party fails or TPKs. He just wants you gone to allow him to concentrate and finish the ritual. Adding your PCs to his undead ranks is just gravy for him.

Good Morning, as I was reading the description, it states that this is a tie-in to CCC-HATMS02-01 Illithid Activity by Joel Marsh. However, I don't see that adventure on here. Is there another place that may have it? Thanks and I look forward to having this entire series.

Hello Adrian!
Joel is going through the process we have to follow to get modules ok'd for posting on DMs Guild, and it should be up soon. I'll link to it once his module is active, so keep an eye out! Hopefully by next week sometime, it should show up! :)

Thank you so much for the fast reply. I just found it weird that parts 2 and 3 came out before Part 1 of the series. :)

Yah, I had been planning to hold off until Joel was ready, but the new process of getting approval pushed it live without me knowing. For what it's worth, part 1 is for Tier 2 characters, and is set up for parts 2 and 3, which are Tier 3...most players are going to be using separate characters, though it's definitely possible to play all the way through the series with the same characters if they level into T3 after part 1! :)

Thank you for the reply. I will go ahead and start this one. I hope the first part comes along though. It may just be my OCD part of me :)

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
