Youtube Review: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lQJGw0GSIX8

"Monster Manual Expanded has plenty that should spark a player's imagination. From enormous mimics to mind flayer assassins to succubi with bardic abilities, there's plenty of monsters to add to a DM's arsenal and turn a good encounter into an instantly memorable one. Best of all, none of the monsters feel overpowered or unbalanced, so DMs can toss these creatures into their campaigns instantly with minimal prep involved." - Comicbook.com (https://comicbook.com/gaming/2019/03/02/dungeons-and-dragons-monster-manual-expanded/)

"The creativity and attention to detail that went into this already makes it must have companion to your MM... you should buy this book and watch your player's jaws drop when monsters they thought they knew prove capable of so much more!"DnD Character Lab (https://www.patreon.com/dndcharacterlab)

"Monster Manual Expanded does a fantastic job of lovingly recreating monsters that were sadly missing from 5e... Whether you're looking to populate your homebrew world or just looking to make that 10th playthrough of Lost Mines of Phandelver a little more interesting, Monster Manual Expanded should be one of your go to resources." - Nerdimmersion (http://www.nerdimmersion.com/)

Monster Manual Expanded is a 321-page source of content that supplements the Monster Manual.  It aims to provide Dungeon Masters more options and flexibility in designing adventures and dressing up their dungeons with a wider variety of creatures and characters that are based on the Monster Manual.  Finally, it also adds variants that provide a nostalgic and classic feel that DMs experienced with the older editions are probably familiar with.

In total, there are over 470 creature stat blocks in this book at the Dungeon Master's disposal!

Hello!

As I am soon going to print v 1.12, would it be possible to add an additional page (after the back cover?) where you keep track of the Errata, same as MM of WotC.

That way we could print just that handout, at every update, and put into the book to check the recent modifications to the content.

i'll put that on my to-do list mattia, but not in the near future. currently, i'm focusing on working on the next book. the only breaks i can do for now are fixing erratas.

Hey there! I have a few other notes for you:

*Hill Giant Chieftain*

1. The hit points should be 184.
2. Perception should be +4 and passive Perception should be 14 since CR 11 monsters have a +4 proficiency bonus.

*Ogres*

1. Most, if not all, of the ogres seem to have 1 extra hit point.

*Ogre Shaman*

1. Passive Perception should be 11.
2. Attack bonus should be +6.
3. Damage bonus should be +4.

*Ogre Skirmisher*

1. Attack bonus should be +6.
2. Damage bonus should be +4.
3. The Skirmish Advantage text might do well as: The ogre gains advantage on the first attack roll of its turn if it has moved to a space at least 15 feet from the space it occupied at the start of its turn. Reasons: "its turn" instead of "this turn" for consistency with the grammar used in the sourcebooks; "start of its turn" instead of "beginning of its turn" for the same...See more

I've been following this product for a while now hoping for news that it would be available as a POD. Is that idea dead and I should get the pdf or is there a plan for print? Thank you

Hi Jeremy. I have been trying to figure working out a POD myself for a couple of months now. However, it's been very challenging. Each time I think I meet a breakthrough, there's another barrier that I discover. The truth is, I am losing hope that I can work out all the kinks myself. The recoloring alone will take a lot of work, and I'm not sure I can have it done. The easiest way for me is to hire someone who can do it all for me, but the cost might not be worth it anymore at this point that I don't think I'll be able to recoup it. This dilemma is the reason why I couldn't answer questions about POD status. I hope you can understand. I will probably create a printer friendly version (one with a plain white background) so that those who want it printed but at a low cost can have that option.

Your book is better than what Wizards put out in the original.

Sure, you have not the art budget, or the series of professional editors and play testers they have, but still, it is better I think. If you had those resources everyone would be saying your book is better. If a good quality POD was made it would beat any other 5E monster guide.

WOC or another game company would be wise if they hired you as a designer.

You have produced a fantastic book, even if you never get a POD then it will still be my goto book for 5E.

And I have been buying D&D books since 1980.

A couple that might be in error.

Bugbear Skeleton listed as humanoid (goblinoid) chaotic evil, but most of the other skeletons are undead lawful evil.

The two sphinxes are listed as magical beasts - Should they be monstrosities?

The Giant Caecilia in the beast section is labeled as a monstrosity, should it be beast like most there?

The Giant Leech in the beast section is labeled as a monstrosity, should it be beast like most there?

The Sea Serpent in the beast section is labeled as a monstrosity, should it be beast like most there?

Apologies for the errata, especially the magical beasts, that's what happens when you don't sleep trying to finish a book.
Yep, all skeletons should be lawful evil.
Caecilia and giant leech definitely are beasts. The Sea Serpent though is a monstrosity. It is a bit more intelligent and charismatic than beasts. Think of it as an aquatic behir.

Good catches Karen. I wonder, did you read through each and every statblock? Let me know if you did, and I'll try to apply the fixes as soon as I can. If not, but you still plan on reading through all of them, I'd greatly appreciate it. I've already had at least three people read through all the stat blocks and you still managed to catch these. That's a fine high perception you got there! ;)

No, I've been keying them into a spreadsheet to load into the "Kobold Fight Club". As that site is only for calculating encounters, it only needs the name, CR, size, type, alignment, HPs, AC and source. You still need to have the source to play, this just lets you know the Adjusted XP for the encounter, like with mixed monsters, and the challenge and makes it easy to select monsters from many sources. So I stumbled across the ones I've mentioned when keying them into the spreadsheet.

Cambion Warlock AC should be 16/19 (mage armor 13 + 4 (dex) + 4 (cha)). Cambion Abyssal Trickster should be AC 18 (studded 12 + 4 (dex) + 3 (cha)).
Where does the Warlock's +4 dam to melee attacks come from. Should it be only +2?

Love the book, you did a terrific job :-)
About typos and such, I can see others writing about those here, is that how it's done or is there a better way of letting you know?
I'm a bit confused about the Dragonblood Lizardfolk Sorcerer - the sorcery points specifically. "It can spend 1 or more sorcery points as a bonus action to gain one of the following benefits" - that's not how it works for sorcerers, but apart from that, then it wouldn't be able to use the quickened spell metamagic, because that makes a spell into a bonus action spell - and you can't use 2 bonus actions on one turn.
Customer avatar
Dragonix N June 08, 2019 6:14 pm UTC
CREATOR
You are absolutely correct, Pia. Can't believe I didn't notice that.

However, the first section that says it can spend 1 or more sorcery points as a bonus action to gain one of the following benefits is indeed the official line, as written in the Kobold Scale Sorcerer in Volo's guide, page. 167.

I will figure out a way to fix the statement so that it works as intended. Funny that the use of sorcery points requires a bonus action, when in the PHB it clearly does not. I'll most likely just remove the use of the bonus action when triggering sorcery points. I suggest you use that ruling for now as well.

I really like what the book has to offer. Having monster stats that support different size categories is extremely useful, especially to those of us that use miniatures from past collections.

I have seen a few things that might be errors: The Medium Fire Elemental's size is listed as huge, while all the other medium elementals are medium; the Kobold Wyrmpriest exhales poison as a breath weapon, but creatures that are hit take fire damage; the Tarrasque (variant) is listed as a "Medium fiend (shapechanger), chaotic evil".
Customer avatar
Dragonix N June 08, 2019 1:55 pm UTC
CREATOR
Yep, those are errors. Thanks for the catch, Vell! And yes, I share the same sentiments about old miniatures. It's the primary reason I made MME. Not just sizes, but minis that have no 5E representation.

I'll fix the errors in the next version.

Glad I could help! Any chance of another volume or expansion that will include other miniature-inspired monsters? I absolutely love this book. I use it to add at least 1 monster per encounter, the variety and detail is excitingly overwhelming. My question is, is there any way to get a dndappfile of these monster blocks? I use a few apps that use dndappfiles to add the monster library to the local library in the app and allows me to refer back to them for encounter building. I would even pay full price a second time just for this dndappfile so I can use those apps with these monster blocks.

Thank you for interest Brandon. As for the dndappfile, sadly, I only input directly to indesign. I don't keep any app data outside of it.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.
Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
