Monster Manual Expanded is a 321-page source of content that supplements the Monster Manual.  It aims to provide Dungeon Masters more options and flexibility in designing adventures and dressing up their dungeons with a wider variety of creatures and characters that are based on the Monster Manual.  Finally, it also adds variants that provide a nostalgic and classic feel that DMs experienced with the older editions are probably familiar with.

In total, there are over 470 creature stat blocks in this book at the Dungeon Master's disposal!

Hi, small issue, I've just purchased this and accidentally purchased hardcopy and PDF twice, when i meant to purchase this and monster manual expanded 2. Is there any way this can be fixed from your end. Sorry for commenting here, but not sure how to contact you otherwise.

Hi Ross. Sorry, not from my end. But you can reach out to DM's Guild customer service via this link: https://support.dmsguild.com/hc/en-us/requests/new

Just fill out the form and explain what happened. They should be able to respond to you in a day or two.

Hi Dragonix,
Do the PoDs incorporate the recent fixes, such as the issues noted by Thomas R on April 10?
Just wanted to be double check, given the cost (the joys of international freight!!) and whatever that preparation process might look like.
Thanks!

Yes, those listed by Thomas R (errors in the table of contents) have been fixed in the PoD.

Thanks Dragonix and Thomas - I just wasn't sure whether the preview PDF lined up with the PoD, given the effort required in preparation. Best to check :)

Are these monsters OGL? Can they be used by other publishers making DMsGuild products?

Hi Joseph. Please check here: https://support.dmsguild.com/hc/en-us/articles/217520927-Ownership-and-License-OGL-Questions

Thanks for that. If I understand what I’m reading then as long as I credit the author of a monster I can use it for DMsGuild products I create?
Customer avatar
Dragonix M May 23, 2020 4:03 pm UTC
CREATOR
Yes. Credit the author and the book. Would appreciate if you add a link to the book too.

Will these books ever be sold on Amazon?
Customer avatar
Dragonix M May 20, 2020 8:54 pm UTC
CREATOR
No, they can not. DM's Guild products can only be purchased through its site, as per their license agreement with Wizards of the Coast and with the third party authors.

Will you be porting this book to Roll20 also?

Unfortunately, no. Unless it can be sold through DMG, we can't. Fantasy Grounds though already has versions of both books.

I’d ask if you’d reconsider. Roll20 would require icon artwork and some formatting. Right now, good work such as this would be highly valued, I should think.

Roll20 may me able tell you how other monster manuals (like from Kobold Press) are selling, hopefully. It’s your call, of course. Keep up the good work.

Dragonix M May 17, 2020 5:45 am UTC
CREATOR
Hi George. Thank you for the praise and I'm glad you like the books. It's not that we don't want to support Roll20, but it's we legally can't. Once we release a product through DM's Guild, it's will be owned by DM's Guild and can only be sold through DM's Guild. This is part of the partnership and license we entered by creating a DM's Guild product. The majority of the art you see in the books is stock art that we acquired from DM's Guild for free, but is exclusive for use for DM's Guild products. I hope you understand.

Dragonix M May 09, 2020 11:19 am UTC

Do you mean in the next MME? Honestly, I don't know yet. It will depend on the availability of existing artwork. This is mostly what determines 70% of the content.

They sure do. I was pleasantly surprised that the quality actually got better, compared to the pdf. I took for granted how the pdf can be more detailed on your monitor screen that we can notice imperfections and low-resolution images, but when I was going through the book page per page, you wouldn't notice them anymore. It was more organic. The images seemed a natural fit. Wait till you get your hands on them. :)

PoD - awesome!

Two questions:
1) Almost full price for the PDF when you buy the PoD (especially now with the sale on the pdf)? That's.... not so attractive?

2) Is there a proper table of contents in the PoD? I read in earlier comments that there isn't one in the pdf (you don't think it is necessary). Rather important in a printed book, I'd say.
Customer avatar
Dragonix M May 08, 2020 8:17 pm UTC
CREATOR
1. Yes, unfortunately, I had to add in the cost of having the books prepared for PoD (a different, expensive process).

2. Yes, both books have a proper table of contents and index. All with page numbers (you can check at the image provided or preview). You can check yourself by downloading the pdf (if you have a copy).

Customer avatar

Yes, of course, you definitely can. However, the pdf is not printer friendly and might cost you a lot. My suggestion, wait a bit until the Print-on-Demand version is available.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.
Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
