Monster Manual Expanded is a 330-page source of content that supplements the Monster Manual.  It aims to provide Dungeon Masters more options and flexibility in designing adventures and dressing up their dungeons with a wider variety of creatures and characters that are based on the Monster Manual.  Finally, it also adds variants that provide a nostalgic and classic feel that DMs experienced with the older editions are probably familiar with.

In total, there are over 470 creature stat blocks in this book at the Dungeon Master's disposal!

Are you planning to provided an errata pdf as a separate file for those of us with the PoD hardcover, or do we have to download the entire book pdf and compare line-by-line?

I want to get mme 1&2 in print. Will both of these be the most up to date? (In regards to typos, additions etc)
Great work though, and im hoping to add these to my growing list of dnd source books

Hi Danny O.

Unfortunately, no, the PoD version is v.18 (one version less than the current pdf version). It still has a few very minor typos, but are very negligible (a total .01% compared to the total content). You will hardly notice them unless you specifically look for it, and even if you do, you can easily fix them on the fly as you DM. Apologies, updating the PoD version is currently beyond my capabilities.

Thanks and Happy New Year's!

Trying to inquire more info about the contents of this book. Hopefully this is alright to ask here. I have already a purchased a large majority of Source and Adventure books from Wotc through dndbeyond. My question is how much of this book maybe duplicate information?

But to answer your question directly, the only duplicate information are the monster types. But the content is 100% new. As it says on the cover and introduction, the statblocks build on and expand on what's existing, but all statblocks are unique and do not exist elsewhere. Also, there are a few new creatures in both books.

Hi! I am so taken with your two MME that I bought them in Hardcover AND in Fantasy Grounds. The books are amazing, and I feel that my money have been well spent. I was wondering if you have a list of monsters divided by Terrain or Environment, so I can create random tables out of it. Even an "unofficial" PDF that you have laying around would suffice! :)

Hi Paolo. Thank you! Sorry, I don't have a creature list by terrain (as they should be similar to the ones provided in the DMG/MM) but the next best thing you can check out is the Kobold Fight Club versions created for both books. You should be able to find the links in one of the comments below.

This manual and the second manual are great additions to my collection. also the variation has allowed me to expand what monsters I'm using in my game.
I bought the physical editions of them, well made and the drawings within are vibrant. Well worth the purchase.

Thank you. I created all of the statblocks. I had help with the descriptive texts. To be fair though, some of the creatures have been inspired by, or updates, from older editions.

Great book that I have been using regularly, but I recently found a typo. The Bodyguard Elite on page 314, under its Multiattack it says "The bodyguard makes two three melee attacks" Looking forward to MME3.

I'm not super familiar with how DMs Guild POD works. If I order the printed book today, do I still get version 1.0, or would any of the 18 rounds of revisions to the PDF be incorporated?
Customer avatar
Dragonix M October 31, 2020 10:45 pm UTC
CREATOR
No, the POD is version v.18. The only difference between PoD and the PDF are the details listed in v.19 (directly below).
Despite what is listed, this accounts to barely .01% of the content. There are over 470 statblocks that have no issues.

I plan to pencil in the errata—I don't know if it's possible for you to do this but I'd really appreciate knowing what pages the layout issues / descriptive texts that got cut are on so I can compare pdf and print on those pages. Thanks!

Do you mean you cannot fix future hardcover prints and/or purchases, or did you only jokingly mean you can't fix hardcover prints in our living rooms?

The former. I can only edit and post pdf corrections. I am unable to change the hardcover print file.

Is it easy to modify monsters from the Monster Manual? Sure. But the number and variety already done up is well worth it. Not to mention that the product itself is top notch quality.

I am very interested in purchasing the hardcover color versions of these books but I am curious before I make that investment if newly ordered print versions will have the corrections of formatting, layout, and typos that you have stated have already been corrected in the PDF version?

Hi Dathen.
Unfortunately, the hard cover copies will still have the minor typos in them. We are unable to update the hardcopies unless DM's Guild allows us to do so. The PDFs though will be updated very soon.

Is there a breakdown anywhere of what kind of CR range this book and MME II represent? For example, Volo's averages closer to CR 5 and is considered the better buy for low & mid-level encounters, while Mordenkainen's Tome of Foes averages CR 10 and is better for higher-level adventures.

I'm very much considering at least Book I, but am trying to decide whether it's better to XXX now or later in the campaign I'm currently running.

Thanks!

Hi Matthew. I can't give an average CR but I can give you this approximate breakdown instead:
MME 1 - 45% CR 5 and lower, 40% CR 6-10, 15% CR 11 and higher.
MME 2 - 40% CR 5 and lower, 40% CR 6-10, 20% CR 11 and higher

Hope that helps.

Hi, I´m wondering what the service delivery is for this book. I live in Mexico and We´ve been having a lot of issues with Mexpost so I´d rather use a private service such as DHL, UPS, Fedex, etc.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.
Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
