Youtube Review: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lQJGw0GSIX8

"Monster Manual Expanded has plenty that should spark a player's imagination. From enormous mimics to mind flayer assassins to succubi with bardic abilities, there's plenty of monsters to add to a DM's arsenal and turn a good encounter into an instantly memorable one. Best of all, none of the monsters feel overpowered or unbalanced, so DMs can toss these creatures into their campaigns instantly with minimal prep involved." - Comicbook.com (https://comicbook.com/gaming/2019/03/02/dungeons-and-dragons-monster-manual-expanded/)

"The creativity and attention to detail that went into this already makes it must have companion to your MM... you should buy this book and watch your player's jaws drop when monsters they thought they knew prove capable of so much more!"DnD Character Lab (https://www.patreon.com/dndcharacterlab)

"Monster Manual Expanded does a fantastic job of lovingly recreating monsters that were sadly missing from 5e... Whether you're looking to populate your homebrew world or just looking to make that 10th playthrough of Lost Mines of Phandelver a little more interesting, Monster Manual Expanded should be one of your go to resources." - Nerdimmersion (http://www.nerdimmersion.com/)

Monster Manual Expanded is a 321-page source of content that supplements the Monster Manual.  It aims to provide Dungeon Masters more options and flexibility in designing adventures and dressing up their dungeons with a wider variety of creatures and characters that are based on the Monster Manual.  Finally, it also adds variants that provide a nostalgic and classic feel that DMs experienced with the older editions are probably familiar with.

In total, there are over 470 creature stat blocks in this book at the Dungeon Master's disposal!

The blackroot treant's animated trees are way too powerful. They inherit its spellcasting, the hit point maximum reduction of its Rotting Slam, and its Aura of Blight. I have a feeling it was not meant to inherit as much as it did, but the wording on Animate Trees does not indicate that this is the case. Also, the damage bonus for the blackroot treant is off by 1 point.

Hi Gage. The wording on animate dead trees is that the dead tree has the same stats as a normal treant, not a blackroot. In fact, the animate dead tree reads almost exactly the same as the treant's animate tree in the MM, except for the dead tree part. A dead tree is not the same as the black root. But you are corrext with the damage bonus. I will fix that when i get back from my vacation.

Shouldn't it be undead though? Since it was made from a dead tree?

Really enjoying this product, it spawns so many great ideas for my campaign. Just to add to the list of changes, the Angels, Shaitan entry. Deva Shaitan and Planetar Shaitan are type Fiend (Shaitan) but the Solar Shaitan is Fiend (demon). Is that a mistake?

Hi Rick. Yes it should be fiend (shaitan). Will fix it in the next version.

Is the Great Bulette supposed to be the Greater Bulette? Also, in the second paragraph in its description you say that it can lay waste to a village “in a hours day.”

For the elder hags, it looks like for all the hags, except the Elder Green Hag, you kept all the actions they have in the official Monster Manual and added some form of cackle attack, either as an action or reaction (in the case of the Elder Sea Hag). But, for some reason you took away the Green Hag's Invisible Passage ability. Why would an Elder Green Hag lose that ability? It seems based on how the other elder hags are listed that the omission was accidental. Also, I think the Elder Green Hag's innate spell casting DC should be 14, not 12 since her proficiency bonus for CR 10 would be +4 (up from +2 for a regular green hag with a CR 3). You correctly increased the Elder Night Hag's innate spell casting DC, so I assume there was an error with the Elder Green Hag.

Bullywug Swampstalker: In the AC note it should be "hide armor" I think, for consistency with not just the MM but also your own document :). You're missing a spell attack bonus, and the DC looks a little high since its WIS modifier is 0. The damage bonus for its XXX and Javelin attacks should be +1, no, since its STR modifier is only +1? Also a typo "damage, damage".

Bullywug Witch Doctor: Its XXX damage bonus should be +1 since its STR modifier is only +1? Same for the spear? Also, the spear doesn't include the elevated damage for using it two-handed. For its Poisonous Retribution feature, you're missing the word "of" after "within 30 feet".

It seems like the Spear text for the above creature should be something like:

Spear. Melee or Ranged Weapon Attack: +3 to hit, reach 5 ft. or range 20/60 ft., one target. Hit: 4 (1d6 + 1) piercing damage, or 5 (1d8 + 1) piercing damage if used with two hands to make a melee attack. The target must...See more

Thanks for pointing them out, Nate! It's been fixed. As for the bullywug swampwalker, the attack should have been Dex based instead of STR. Also fixed the missing two-handed spear text in the chieftain's. Corrected them now. ;)

Shouldn't those attacks be STR based, though? A javelin is a thrown weapon and thus relies on STR, no? And a XXX attack would be an unarmed strike, right?

No, it doesn't always have to be. Some creatures, even humanoids, use Dex for their XXX and weapon attacks, even if it is not a finesse weapon.

Well worth it for me. It adds higher challenge rating versions of a lot of monsters that are perfect for my campaign, but that my players have outgrown the CR of the basic version. I really like it. Thanks for a great book, and for continuing to edit/add to it.

I'm going to guess that you used the Air Elemental, Medium as a template for the Fire Elemental, Medium since the Fire Elemental, Medium for some reason has resistance to lightning and thunder damage while the MM version and your Huge version do not. :)

Updating my opinion.

I have used this product quite often in my campaign that I run with friends who have been playing together 25+ years. They do not try to meta, but the been there done that is strong. This product was a huge breath of fresh air. We are enjoying it allot.

I would love to see a FG version.

Keep up the good fight Dragonix!

I cant review this item as I have a publisher account but here are my thoughts...

Have you burned through the monsters in your Monster Manual yet? Are you playing with *that guy* who knows what all the monsters will do and when? Even the more obscure ones? Well, a new D&D supplement has been created with you in mind. It is the “Monster Manual Expanded” Edition and it provides & expands of the current monsters with plenty of variants.
Have you have ever wanted to create a culture behind the mobs, expand on the undead theme in your campaign without 10,000 plain vanilla skeletons, develop a ‘mob town’ to have some real variety yet struggle to come up with well thought out stat blocks.
This book is a real charm. It is 336 pages long and jam packed filled with over 470 stat blocks. You no longer have to insert a ‘skeleton’ here there and everywhere but rather there are 11 different skeletons [Different stat blocks] to choose from with different ranks [from CR 1/8 to CR...See more

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.
Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
