PRINT-ON-DEMAND/HARDCOVER NOTE: The PoD/Hardcover options will be DEACTIVATED by November 30, 2021. A new hardcover version will be prepared to address fixes and improvements and will be available by late 1st or early 2nd quarter of 2022.

Monster Manual Expanded is a 330-page source of content that supplements the Monster Manual.  It aims to provide Dungeon Masters more options and flexibility in designing adventures and dressing up their dungeons with a wider variety of creatures and characters that are based on the Monster Manual.  Finally, it also adds variants that provide a nostalgic and classic feel that DMs experienced with the older editions are probably familiar with.

In total, there are over 470 creature stat blocks in this book at the Dungeon Master's disposal!

Do the monsters in this and other monster books you've developed comply with the DMG rules, or are they totally homebrew?

If you mean were the monsters designed and balanced using the rules outlined in the DMG, then yes. All language/text are also aligned with the existing MME and bestiaries. The third book, MME3, already follows the format used in the upcoming Mordenkainen's Monsters of the Multiverse. MME1 and MME2 will also be revised soon to match that format.

Hi, I love your first two expanded Monster Manuals, (I just used the Jackalwere Thug from the the 1st book in my game this past Sunday), and I am planning on getting the third one in the near future. I saw that the 3rd book recently got a large update to have the various critters be in line with Monsters of the Multiverse. Is there a chance of the previous two Manuals getting a similar update? I realize that this might not be feasible, with the POD of the 3rd book coming, but I was curious.

I’ve been thinking of getting the POD versions now that my D&D has restarted to discover they will be discontinued until 2022. So I can make an informed to decision to buy them now or wait. What are the improvements being made to the books in the reprints?

The improvements will be major. Much better art and updated statistics. However, as mentioned, the first book upgrade will be released sometime late Feb/March while the 2nd book might be on May/June.

I'm a verified purchaser of hardcopies for both the first and second books, but I'd be interested in updated hardcopies. Would you consider discounting new versions for those of us that have them already? I also plan to buy the 3rd in hardcopy when it becomes available, so maybe a package deal?
Customer avatar

Hi Edward. No, unfortunately, giving discounts to those who already purchased before is beyond my control. I can only upload and update a product. The transaction/record keeping part is controlled by the platform/store itself, DM's Guild/OBS/Drivethru RPG, which I have no connection with other than using their platform/store.

Just curious, would it be possible to have a Fantasy Ground + PDF bundle? I need the module in fantasy ground for the stat, but the PDF would be nice to read it on my tablet or phone while not at the computer.

I received my physical order of vol 1 and 2, very excited! However the printer packaged them so that vol 1's spine was caught in the glue sealing the cardboard shipper. This resulted in the spine being warped and pulled badly. I know it's not Dragonix's fault, but felt you should know so you can address it with DMsGuild staff for future orders. $70 book (with shipping) messed up on arrival...

Having said all that... these books are amazing, and should be in every DM's library! Cannot wait for vol 3 and will still be getting it POD when available.

Question: Will MME3 be POD on release?
Customer avatar
Dragonix M July 03, 2021 9:06 pm UTC
CREATOR
Hi Liz.

No, sorry.

Because it's almost impossible to edit a PoD after release, we decided it would be a better idea to wait until October/November before releasing on PoD to ensure we catch all typos and errors. Also, we want to be sure there's no overlap in any of the upcoming books (if one of the creatures in MME3 comes out in any of the official books within October then we can edit it to follow that).

Just received my POD MME 1&2; neither of the books had the spine glued to the cover. Is this the normal condition of the printed book?

Funny, I just checked mine, and, yeah, both of their spines aren't glued either. Hasn't been an issue though since I got them last year.

I have learned some threads below that the hardcover version is printed and manufactured in UK and sent from UK. I am located in germany. Thus this is non EU to EU shipping which usually leads to custom charges. Any information about this in the Brexit times? Do I have to pay custom charges and will I need to physically pick it uo at the custom office (which is the case usually if delivered from outside of EU)? thx for feedback

Hi Tim. Those are very specific process concerns that, unfortunately, I cannot answer as I am not privy to DMG's/OBS shipping details. You can reach out to them directly here: https://support.dmsguild.com/hc/en-us/requests/new.

I hope you get your answer soon.

I am also located in Germany. I've recently ordered a PoD with DMSGuild/OneBookShelf. I selected premium shipping (which apparently uses UPS) and it arrived at my doorstep. I didn't have to go to customs or pay any additional charges.

Hi, I have the PDF; is there an option to 'upgrade' to a POD version? Or do I just need to buy the Hardcover separately? Which covers the print costs, but not shipping? Thanks!
Customer avatar
Dragonix M April 21, 2021 5:08 pm UTC
CREATOR
Hi Neil! Thank you for purchasing the pdf. Unfortunately, DM's Guild doesn't have a pdf to PoD upgrade option. You will have to purchase it separately. Ordering a hardcover will always include the shipping costs.

On average, how soon after purchase do they normally ship for the hard copy? Is it from US?
Customer avatar
Dragonix M April 11, 2021 9:11 am UTC
CREATOR
Hi Taylor.

The book either ships from the US or from the UK, whichever you are located nearer to.

As for how soon and how long it ships, I'm sorry I don't directly work with DM's Guild and not privy to info about shipping times so I cannot give you an accurate answer. To get a more informed answer, I suggest you reach out to DMG here: https://support.dmsguild.com/hc/en-us/requests/new.

What I can tell you is just based on experience and feedback (which again, you should take with a grain of salt). It could take 1-4 weeks before it ships (depending on the pandemic situation), and depending on your choice of shipping, between 1-6 weeks for it to arrive.

Got this in both PDF and hardback, NOT disappointed! Both this and its mate are exactly what they look like on the cover: an expanded look at the monster manual, adding harder-to-kill variants of nearly everything. The Book is incredinbly professional, and we're glad we scooped it up. good stuff!

PS. both of my comments will be the same because I'm copy and pasting, not spamming. yes, a little lazy, sorry-not-sorry. :-)

Heya Dragonix,
Wondering if you could help me with an issue I am having with the POD of both MMEI and II.
in June I purchased both (only hardbacks, no PDF's) and as of this week, both covers are having glue issues. For MME1, the cover has totally come unglued and for MME2, the cover is in the process of becoming unglued (I would say with 2-3 more uses, the cover will come off).
Do you know if there is anything that can be done?

Love the books btw! I use them all the time!

Hi Danielle. Please try reaching out to the DM's Guild and explain your issue. This is the link: https://support.dmsguild.com/hc/en-us/requests/new. I can't promise you anything as I am not really connected with DM's Guild or OBS. But do please let me know what their response is. Just email me at nix_hobbystop@yahoo.com. Thanks.

Are you planning to provided an errata pdf as a separate file for those of us with the PoD hardcover, or do we have to download the entire book pdf and compare line-by-line?

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.
Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
