What’s Behind Your Mask?

A Barovian wizard named Sir House has transformed his old spellbook into a chronicle of the people and adventures he's encountered since leaving his homeland. His account of the world goes into the finer details that most people never see, uncovering masks and revealing secrets hidden in plain sight.

The Book of House is a 5th Edition Supplement for Dungeons & Dragons that provides a bird's eye view on lore old and new. It's jam packed with a variety of new player and rule options. You'll find:

  • a thorough exploration into the society of clonns, a clown-y race of people just trying to succeed
  • four new playable race options, including clonns, gnolls, sprites, and a spider-y young race called the tula
  • five new subclass options, featuring the Bardic College of Culinary (chef), the Monk-y Way of the Caretaker (butler), the Mind Trapper ranger, the Merchant rogue, and the Residual Magic sorcerer
  • new rules for playing a lycanthrope adventurer, including new options for weresquids, wereoctopuses, weresharks, and werewasps
  • new feats and backgrounds, allowing players to become cowboys, mimes, and even juggalos
  • 10 new magic items and 12 new spells
  • new rules for enhancing combat, including striking specific parts of the body, scaling effects, new actions everyone can take, and throwing rocks really good
  • 12 new monster modifiers and 12 new monster stat blocks to go with them
  • 3 legendary enemies to make for a thrilling capstone to your campaign

Amid the book's details, Sir House has left his notes and observations throughout the pages. The mystery of his scattered birdbrain may never be solved!

And now included in the digital version: The Lost Notes of Sir House! Two new subclasses for the Artificer (Painter) and the Warlock (Great Wyrm)!

NEW: Now comes with an Artificer Specialist version of The College of Culinary. Make your next Artificer a Kitchenette, where you'll throw everything at your opponents but the kitchen sink!

"The contents of The Book of House are unique and seriously inspired. It’s not just a rehashing of 5e mechanics that we’ve seen before or one or two new things added into the mix. Everything is new, completely different, but at the end of the day, still feels like D&D 5e." - Eldadres, Dungeon Solvers

"All in all, [the Book of House creators] have surprised me and perhaps all of us with The Book of House. It feels like a contender. This purchase is a supplement that I can see DMs recommending to each other. I can see this download inspiring encounters and perhaps whole scenarios." - Andrew Girdwood, Geek Native

So, I purchased the digital version, but it is only giving me the download links for The Lost Notes of Sir House included, and not the main PDF itself. Does anyone know why this might be?

Hey, big fan of your work, love it to bits. Although one thing is a bit unclear to me with the lycanthropes, do the lycanthrope racial traits replace the sub race traits or anything or do they get them along with their normal racial traits, same question for Lycan ASI. As for the shapechanger feature, can they do it as many times as they'd like, and it's also stated that the equipment that is worn does not transform, does that mean in hybrid form I don't have the AC of my armor anymore?

The Painter artificer needs to be revisited - it looks like it still follows one of the Artificer UA formats (gaining its abilities at levels 3,6, and 14, instead of the new layout for subclass features, which is 3, 5, 9, and 15, which may require some readjusting of its abilities). I hope you can tackle that before too long, since I'm hoping to use that subclass soon~

How does the Wok work for the Bard? They are not proficient with Shields but proficient with the cooking tools as weapons. Does that weapon proficiency extend to the shield aspect of the Wok as well? I assume yes otherwise they suffer for using the wok

Hi nyal! Great catch!

Correct, the weapon proficiency of the wok is intended to provide the bard with a shield they can use without a proficiency in shields. There is probably a clearer way to write it out RAW, though.

Stay protected, young chef!

Hey Dom! A phenomenal question!

When Sir House was conducting research and interviews with tulas, his sample size was limited to those who awakened from regular spiders. I can provide a few more details that he wasn't able to acertain.

A lot of the tula biology remains the same as their spider and tarantula counterparts, which involves laying a clutch of fertilized eggs. THAT SAID as children of Lolth, I would not be surprised if reproduction with elves (particularly drow) was possible. As draegloth are the result of a drow/glabrezu coupling, you might very well be able to achieve a pseudodrider under the right circumstances.

Hope this provides you with the insight you were looking for!

Does the Clonn's "ignore -1 ability checks" means that all -1s are treated as 0s? Along with it's power to trun all +1s & 0s to a +2

Hi Alexander! I think you've got it, but let me clarify!
- If the bonus is normally a +0 or a +1, it becomes a +2
- If the bonus is normally a -1, it becomes a +0
- If the bonus got changed into a +0, it stays a +0

Question about the Make a Snack feature for the College of Culinary subclass: When creating snacks, are all of the snacks you create the same flavor or can a combination of flavors be created? Does this ruling also apply to adding a second flavor when using fresh ingredients? For instance if I roll a 3 on my inspiration die and use fresh ingredients, can I make one snack savory and spicy and the other two sour and salty?
Thanks!

CREATOR
Hi Jeffery! Very good questions!

So the ruling as intended was that you were granted:
- one flavor of snack per inspiration die you roll
- a number of snacks equal to the number rolled on the inspiration die, all featuring that flavor
- the potential add a second flavor to any of those snacks (1/2 of fresh ingredients per snack)

So say you use an inspiration die to make savory snacks. You roll that die and get a 4. Now say you have a pound of sweet ingredients and a pound of spicy ingredients. You would be able to make 2 savory/sweet snacks and 2 savory/spicy snacks.

That said, I don't see an issue with rolling another inspiration die during the same rest that features a different base flavor! What you proposed also wouldn't be too overpowered, but I would make sure it's cleared with the DM first since the text might not help with the ruling.

Hope that helps!

Hi, quick question about the "Midus Touch" ability for The Merchant rogue subclass. It says "As long as your lucky coin is on your person, you can spend 1 gp from your Bank when you declare an attack on an enemy you can see to give yourself advantage, or 10 gp if you would attack at a disadvantage." I'm a bit confused on the wording of the last part.

Would that be granting you advantage if your attack had disadvantage (making it no advantage at all), granting you advantage regardless of disadvantage (so you'd have advantage), or granting your attack disadvantage? I really hope it's not the last one, 'cause that seems quite awful, haha.

Hi David! Sorry about the confusion!

The intent is that you're paying to get advantage in the end. So if you were going to attack, and it would normally be at a disadvantage, you can pay 10 GP to instead attack at advantage.

I hope this helps! Maybe try to sneak attack with a net ;)

I'm pretty sure it's supposed to be in gibberish. Presumably it does actually mean something, but is encoded, as the writing on page 66 is formatted the same way as a spell.

I've realized that posting the content of a thing you need to pay for (even if I'm only posting a small amount) is probably illegal, so I'm just going to post the cypher they used. I haven't figured out E, I, M, V, or W, but it shouldn't be too hard to work out what those translate to.

A=M B=O C=L D=F E=? F=C G=R H=I

I=? J=T K=U L=S M=? N=B O=H P=D

Q=V R=P S=A T=E U=G V=? W=? X=W

Y=K Z=N

Hey Gregory!

You did some great work on the cipher! It's a shame that some folks might have a strong head start now, but I appreciate the effort you put into it

I do have another riddle that'll make solving the cipher a bit easier for folks who catch this comment:
"The raven may be out of sight,
but fallen feathers mark his flight."

Is anyone else having difficulty downloading this pdf? I thought that it might be my computer, but after clearing caches, history, resetting the browser, trying different browsers, and more, it still fails to download - around 15 mgbs, it stops and the speed reduces to 0b/s.

Is there any way to request another means of downloading the file? I can send over some sort of proof of purchase if necessary, but I really can't seem to access them as it currently stands.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
