Are there PDFs of the player's maps from the back of the book, if you only have the harcover version? I looked and couldn't find them.

Also, is there a map for The Corrupted Temple from the Guardian of the Forest adventure?

I believe Ashley Warren can email you the pdfs if you shoot her an email (she shared her email address to a comment below this one)! :)

If I buy only the hardcover version, is there any way to get access to the player friendly maps so I can have something to put on the table?

I can send them to you via email! Email me:

My hardcover version supposedly shipped on the 21st of June. It is now the 28 of July, and I have yet to receive it. Is there any way to track the package?

Hey Daniel! You may have to reach out to the OBS team:

I saw in the sample viewing that for a fight encounter there was a paragraph on scaling the battle depending on the number of players. Is that the case throughout the entire volume? I'd want to run this for just one person

Unfortunately not, so you would need to do the adjustments yourself for the most part. That said, many of the adventures focus more on roleplay than combat, especially for the more powerful encounters, and it's possible to run some of them without combat. For the lower level ones that do have combat, pay attention to attack power but you could probably get away with them as is if you ensure that the player is at least level 4 or 5 and/or give them an NPC ally.

Hope that helps!

The book is beautifully designed, but my copy arrived with all the four corners smashed. I just don't know what people are doing with packages nowadays in order to completely destroy 4 corners, equally, of a hard-cover book. It's like, you have to throw it down twice, aiming for different angles. As a book that I bought largely because of the artwork (but not only), it's a bummer.

The idea and execution of these adventures is brilliant. The adventures don't just subvert the expectations of the gender stereotypes of monsters, but also of how RPGs should be played. They critique the foundation and assumptions of our RPG culture. The authors are not writing cynically or ironically, they seem to be trying to build something. The moral and cultural dilemmas contained in these adventures truly push the state of the art of tabletop games.

Ashley Warren, the writers, and other folks on this collaboration should be proud of this achievement. I look forward to the rest of the series!

My only suggestion is that the format of the adventures sometimes makes the adventure plots hard to follow. I intend to run the incredible "Lai of the Sea Hag," but I had to make a lot of notes in the margin, highlights, and bullets pointed lists in order to completely understand it and make it cohesive.

The adventure "Appalling Morass" is *excellently*...See more

I see it lists Volume 2 as being released in May, which is over.

The first volume was great. Please, can you update on ETA on Volume 2?

I just got my POD in the mail two days ago; gorgeous. Can’t wait to use it!

Now I’m worried bc I got an email saying the book was updated - can you fill us in on what was updated? I can’t find the update details anywhere.

Also I’m looking forward to the future volumes; any word on Vol II’s arrival date?

OneBookShelf / staff updated the digital download file to fix an iOS image viewing problem.
No other changes were made.

Is there any resolution forthcoming for the iOS issues with the maps and images in the PDF? It has been two months since the last file update. I'm a recent buyer, and I feel like I've been let down on an otherwise fantastic product. After all, I bought a pdf to use on my tablet, not a thing I should have to print out to see the maps and use at the table.
Customer avatar
Ashley W May 27, 2019 11:02 pm UTC
Hey Adam! I'm sorry there hasn't been any resolution yet; I've tried what I can on my end with exporting settings, and last I heard the OneBookShelf team was investigating. I'll follow up to see if there's a different setting you can try using on your device -- I also use an iPad so I understand your frustration. Thanks!

Does this take place in the forgotten realms?
Customer avatar
Catherine E May 13, 2019 8:04 pm UTC
Some of the adventures are set specifically in the Forgotten Realms, but most are "setting neutral": you could easily drop them into the Forgotten Realms if you want to, but you could also run them in most other campaign settings.

A review.

Unique among one-shot adventure collections in that Uncaged has a tightly unifying theme gloriously realized through adventure scenarios that often feature tough moral dilemmas, Uncaged Volume I is a triumph. It is beautifully laid out with several tools that make it incredibly easy to navigate it’s 26 adventures, many of which feature new monsters, magic items, and encounter maps. With the exception of maybe one or two missing references that might affect gameplay, the editing is incredibly consistent, making it a joy to read. If you’re looking for one-shots that are more than just dungeoncrawls, there might not be a better release out there.

Rating: Content 5/5 and Form 4/5

Hi William, we're not associated with Wizards or employed by them. Your best bet is sending them an email through the official Wizards of the Coast website.

I am really looking forward to the next release in May.

Just to put it in picture, I grew up in Apartheid South Africa and had to fight in the bush war in Angola in 1986. We were common infantry men of 18 years old. We went to war, and I was in the bush war against Angola for 2 years. We would go out on 6 patrols weeks into the bush in small troops and survive there, I lost 20 of my fellow infantry soldiers in a mortar attack.

What kept me going was my 3 AD&D books and playing D&D with my fellow soldiers.

The Dominie (a.k.a Christian priest) eventually had our books burnt as Satanic, so we carried on playing from memory. Even though haven being wounded in battle but having still fought on till the end, having been shot at by Artillery, spent months paroling behind enemy lands during the night, where you have to be careful of lions, however because I was a atheist, I was treated poorly by the Army and told I deserved to die instead of the Christian soldiers. ...See more

Nice to see a fellow customer from Africa (I'm more Eastern though). Mandiba was an idol in my childhood during the 90s. I'm often thankful to have not been born a couple of decades earlier. Great to see how the country is slowly moving past those dark days.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.
Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
