Drop Out of Life and Become One with the Haze with this Dank Druid Subclass

This product came out of a love of bands like Sleep, The Sword, and other hazy, riff-slinging groups. We had a lot of fun and more than a few laughs hashing these ideas out, and hope they bring you at least as much happiness. Thank you for supporting indie creators!

"The Haze Druid is intended as a lighthearted subclass, but I thought the Haze and its abilities are quite innovative." - Christian Hoffer of www.comicbook.com

The Haze demands a chill, distanced outlook on life. Not quite your speed? Check out the Path of the Slayer if you're more into axes, blood, and spiked bracers.

What's Inside?

  • A new lighthearted druid archetype that focuses on empowering their spells by using magical herbs.
  • A printer-friendly version for easy reference at your table.

I'm finding this subclass a bit later than most but love it and have started working on some backstory. I'm changing a few features around to have my character choose to give up the ability to Wild Shape into animals in order to take on Haze Form (and therefore flying) at level 2. I figured the sacrifice would balance things out and provide a little bit more flavor to my character. I'm trying to figure out a way to use the herbalism kit to have my Haze Forms either deal damage or temporarily provide AC bonuses and/or temporary hit points.

I love this subclass. The only thing I felt it needed was some circle spells. I did a little looking around came up with these ideas:

Level 3: Misty Step
Level 5: Gaseous Form
Level 7: Stone[d]skin
Level 9: Cloudkill

I only chose 4 because the double concentration on deep inhale is pretty potent.
Let me know what you think!

Hey man!

Thanks a bunch for supporting the product and I'm happy to hear it worked out for you.

I actually considered adding bonus spells to this subclass as it is clearly a "spells first" druid, but I ultimately decided that it would step on the Circle of the Land's toes a bit much, and, when designing third party content, I never want to clearly outshine the official stuff.

That said, the great thing about D&D is that every table plays a different game. How you use the Circle of the Haze (or any material!) is totally your call. Personally, I love seeing people change what I have made to suit their needs. These spells are a perfect fit and I actually laughed out loud at stone[d]skin. Well done, man.

Stay hazy.

To whoever created the Stoner Druid class. If you ever need some artwork (black and white) for this or future work, let me know and I'll see if I can hook you up, as I feel guilty for not paying for this download because I'm so broke, but I am considered to be not too bad of a scribbler, so maybe I can make it good somehow...

I apologize if this is a horrible question. I am fairly newer than most. Would the main benefit of the haze form be scouting? With the statement that you can’t take actions, I’m confused by its possible benefits. Additionally, if it is best used for scouting, what do you envision the visibility or perception rules being while traveling around as a hazy and possibly dank smelling cloud?

Thanks for the help!

Hey man! No need to apologize - the Haze is welcoming and inclusive. We all took our first trip into the circle at some point, right?

We saw the haze form as being mostly a way to dip out of a deal gone bad. You get some nice damage resistances and the ability to fly around and float under doors and stuff. You could definitely use it for getting a look ahead, if that's your thing.

You bring up a good question about the haze form's particularly dank odor maybe causing some problems. I would say that's up to you and your Dungeon Master. If you all found that to be a good time worth a few laughs, maybe drop a disadvantage on Stealth checks made while smelling a bit... ripe.

Hope this gave you a few smiles. Thanks for supporting us, man! Pass the word around - preferably to the left if you're having fun.

*cough* Woahhhh man, this is a pretty far out subclass...I think my druid Tokin Dankleaf is ready to learn the ways of the Haze.

Question: Breathe of Haze D4 damage doesn't increase at higher levels correct? Just the additional frightened condition at 11th level? (Just wanted to make sure I was reading that right)

Hey man! Welcome to the Circle. Remember that the Haze always blows to your left, you know?

Yeah, only the additional condition for the cantrip. We actually went back and forth on a few ideas for how to do this cantrip. At one point the damage did increase at the normal levels.

Would love to hear any feedback!

This class is cool but what I'm into death metal? Is there a joke class for people that listen to good music?

When you use "one with the haze" and are brought to 0 hit points, do you fall unconscious and start making death saving throws when you return to nomal form?

Hey Owen!

First, thanks for joining our Circle, man. Sorry for taking a bit to answer this - Christian and I had to consult the Haze to know its will, you know?

Yeah, our intention here was that if the dank druid is reduced to 0 hit points, their haze form bounces and the druid returns to whatever flesh suit they normally wear, making death saves like normal. But this is just like, our opinion, man.

Thank God!! I was looking at making a character but a reefer smoking Druid named Bong Ripper sounds dope. Sleep and The Sword are fantastic bands by the way. You earned major brownie points. Maybe my Druid's name will be Kyuss.. I'll call the group I roll with The Melvins.

Drop out of life with a bong in hand and smoke yourself to the riff filled land.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
