About Baldman Games

Baldman Games are gamers, DMs, and writers, who love D&D. We’ve been running shows since 2001 starting with small regional shows in NE Ohio (All Americon & MVC) and grew quickly to adding Origins in 2004 and Winter Fantasy/DDXP & Gencon in 2005. We added organized play to our plate in 2011 with Ashes of Athas – our in-house Dark Sun campaign. In 2014 we added PAX Prime to our plate and have expanded upon that in 2015. And in 2018, we introduced Season of the Rising Shadows for the Adventurer’s League, a series of adventurers set in the Moonshae Islands.

Good 1st-level adventure. Experienced players quickly realize the implications of facing lycanthropes at this level. Smart play is required. I ran this adventure recently at my FLGS' game day. The main problems I had was a party loaded with melee fighters, making several of the encounters much more deadly. Also, strict time-constraints, the party would have missed out on multiple loaned, silvered weapons. DMs should keep note of the time and consider combining several encounter rewards so their players have silvered weapons for later encounters. The other complaint I had regarded one of the story awards. Getting a discount on getting their own weapons silvered for 75GP (equal to a tier 1 level-up) is a fantastic award. But the followup adventures move away from lycanthropes to other enemy types, making the silvering worthless. On the plus side, combat required a little bit of strategy, there were some RP opportunities, and players and DM had gun.

Regarding the Defenders of Caer Moray story award: In the Rewards section of the adventure this story award indicates that players can silver weapons at a discounted rate while in Caer Moray, and refers to Appendix 5a. Appendix 5a is the other story award (and I assume was just a copy/paste error), with Defenders of Caer Moray being Appendix 5b. However Appendix 5b has different text for this story award (allowing one re-roll of any CHA-based roll per session when dealing with someone from Caer Moray). Which benefit is the correct one? Or are both correct?

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
