Waterdeep: The Plowing and Running is an urban mystery set in the city of Waterdeep in the Forgotten Realms. The plot centers around a kidnapping that takes place during the Plowing and Running festival.

The adventure is intended for characters levels 4 through 6 and is designed to supplment the Waterdeep: Dragon Heist adventure module.

Spring in the city of Waterdeep is a spectacular time of year. The crowds are gathering for the annual races celebrating the Plowing and Running festival. Behind the scenes, an unknown conspirator works to disrupt the day's festivities. One of the racers has disappeared under mysterious circumstances and threatens to turn the joyous occasion into a scene of chaos. Those organizing the event are looking for brave and discreet volunteers to locate the missing racer and find out who is behind the plot to disrupt the event. Can the adventurers solve the mystery before it's too late?

This adventure includes:

  • A kidnapping mystery with several clues leading to different ways for the characters to solve it.
  • Mechanics for players to participate in a race at the holiday event.
  • Two optional bonus objectives, including one that has the players exploring the city of Waterdeep and another that allows characters and players to explore their creative sides.

Winner of r/DnDBehindTheScreen Best Oneshot Award, January 2019

First, I am not running any campaign with Waterdeep. But the information and mission in here can easily be adapter to any campaign with a large city. Love the way the adventure is written, as well as the options for solving the mystery. This is [...]

Even though I didn't own the module of Waterdeep my players loved the city. The adventure was very easy to follow as a DM and as players they only managed to follow the culprit into town and catch him in some shady buisiness before thay had to flee and [...]

I'm going to run this over the weekend for my group that is doing Dragon Heist, and I think they'll enjoy it. (It also fits nicely that we chose the Spring option and this festival hapens in the Spring.) I like how there are multiple paths to solving [...]

A nicely done mystery adventure, which isn't always easy to find for RPGs. I also really liked how this could tie in to the official Waterdeep adventure books. It's the 2nd best 1.99 I've ever spent. Taco Bell Nacho Fries being the first. [...]

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.
Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
