Hard Hands - A Guide to Underground Blood Sports

ADD TO WISHLIST >

In every plane of the multiverse, illegal fighting can be found: small outcrops of people willing to test their might outside of the governance of city spectacle. Exhibition fights in town square may entice a few, but in the dark corners of the city, where the rich and destitute meet on even ground, people pit themselves against one another in gruesome exchanges of violence.

Table of Contents

The Fights

Functional Rules. Even blood sports require rules, especially in the realm of Dungeons and Dragons. A Monk has absolutely no defense against a Power Word Kill, after all. The rules presented include six comprehensive rules for battle inside "the circle," penalties for fighters who subvert or break the agreed upon rules, and betting rules, including Odds, Payouts, Maximum Bets, and Winnings.

Terminology. A quick run-down of all useful definitions make sorting through the insanity that is Blood Sports early on, so there's no mix-ups for you or your players.

Become a Champion. There is more to being champion than a single fight for a belt. Should you join as a contender and fight your way to the top? Find an investor and challenge the champion immediately? What kinds of rewards can a champion expect for earning the title? How does a champion even maintain their title without bringing the game to a grinding halt? This PDF lays out exactly how to handle such things in your own games!

The Anvil

The Circle. In this supplement you'll find a completely laid out fighting pit to inject in your own games. An abandoned penal labor camp converted into an arena for underground fighting ran by a half dozen NPCs to guide your players and keep the peace.

The Apex Fighter. A champion plucked from the history of D&D - The Nentir Vale. A goliath who has won 18 victories and established a fierce reputation. The perfect obstacle for your player to strive to overcome.

A Full Roster. Few options present themselves for challenges a player chacter can face alone. This PDF highlights 29 options for such a fight along with betting odds, appropriate CRs, and exact page numbers - to make running these contests as simple and easy as possible.

100+ NPC Greetings 5e Character Sheet 5e Feats Revisited Barbarian Archetype: Path of the Leveler
Give each and every new NPC your players bump into a unique greeting. You never know what kind of fighter they'll face until you roll "Eyyyyyy! *finger guns*" Since disallowing magic is pretty paramount to a fist fight, you may get a lot of use out of a simple Character sheet that has extra room for all those quirky class abilities A revamp of many of the weak/less useful feats in the game. Offering up feats for your players as rewards instead of gold could fit your game perfectly! If BRUTALITY is your thing, I highly suggest grabbing this archetype. It can make for some amazing one-on-one combat opportunities.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
