The Great Wyrm Theft | A Waterdeep One-Shot

ADD TO WISHLIST >

Name

"That sorceress of his, Nahm-Din, is very dangerous. It would be best if you don't talk to her, don't look at her, or better yet, don't linger in the same room as her. " - Vivienne

Good morning, agents! Today’s special is larceny. A Waterdhavian merchant who goes by the name of Arnould Gerin plans to sell the Great Wyrm during his son’s birthday celebration. It is your mission to retrieve the Great Wyrm before it’s out of reach! As is the tradition, you may keep whatever else you might pocket...

Space

The Great Wyrm Theft is a heist set in Waterdeep’s North Ward, specifically in the Gerin family’s mansion on Immar Street 15. You may play the heist as a one-shot or incorporate it into an ongoing Dragon Heist campaign. There is no recommendation for a specific party level since much depends on the players’ ingenuity and ability to improvise. In fact, I recommend playing this heist with parties of different levels to witness how the arrogance of higher level parties may be their downfall, where novices succeed due to their caution.

The adventure is presented to you by author Christian Eichhorn and editor R P Davis. You can contact me via mail (christian.eichhorn.dmg@gmail.com) or via Twitter (@squirrelgolem).

Hey Christian. The Great Wyrm Theft is my first purchase from you and I'm excited to run it! I do want to ask, is it alright if this adventure is run online in a paid game?

I'm actually not 100% sure. I'd say yes from the standpoint of treating it like a tool. When you buy a hammer, you can use it privately or for your business. But I'm not the rights holder anymore, so I can't give you an official permission. If you want to cover your bases, you can write an e-mail to Lysa (lysa@onebookshelf.com), she can probably give you a proper answer! :)

Hi, I love the effort which has been put into this. It's ALMOST a one-shot-in-a-box which I was looking for.

One thing that isn't clear is where are all guards stationed?
It's clear that there are 5 guards at D1-D5. That's 5 of the 8, where the three guards purposely left out for the DM to assign them? If not where would they be?

I'm DM'ing this tomorrow and looking forward to it.

Below are some areas of improvement I'd like to raise to only made this more great:
- The DM needs to read the whole document and remember details. It would be easier as a DM for some segments to be re-arranged. For example, in "Room 10: Spire" it reads "when the characters enter the mansion, roll a d20...". This should be at the beginning of the document so a DM can remember to roll this at the beginning as we (especially I) can forget about it while multi-tasking.

- pg 7 Garden Front. "On the mansion's east side is garden". There is an "a"...See more

Hey Daniel, thanks for the write-up! I'm sure it'll come in handy for a few DMs :) I can't make any updates anymore since I created with Homebrewery back in the day, but let's consider this the official errata. Have fun in your session! :D

Hi. Bought the adventure and preparing for my party. It looks really interesting but need to confirm something (tell me to delete if spoiler):
Nahm-Din have the 1000 pp in her bag of holding so the party need to pickpocket her at the same time to avoid begin in the same room as her?

Hey, thanks for buying a copy :)

I might not understand what you mean, but here's what I think: Nahm-Din has the 1000pp in her bag of holding, that's correct. Mind you, stealing the 1000pp is just a bonus objective, the characters don't need to do it to fulfill the mission. To get the coins, the characters can steal the bag of holding, can wait for Nahm-Din to pull the coins out to pay for the gem, or coerce her to do it (for example maybe with a suggestion spell). So, it's not a question of where they are (in which room) but if they dare to confront Nahm-Din.

I hope that helps, if not let me know :)

I was wondering could you explain the lettering on the maps? I.e P, D5, H, etc. What do these stand for?

Hey Daniel, of course!

D1, D2, ... mean Door 1, Door 2 and so on. H means hallway and P means privy. You'll find the explanation on page 6, but we covered it all except S which stands for Secret Door, but that's pretty common. Hope you have fun! :)

Yeah i missed this too. Might I suggest one of the following:
A) Only labeling on the map the room numbers, and reference the tagging in the associated description (yes that means numbering the hallway and the privy as their own rooms/entries)
B) Include a legend on your map.

Also.... a grid on the map would be helpful. That or dimensions for every room in the description of each.

Printer versions (no background coloring, walls, stairs, and grid only) would be appreciated in future publications.

Where are the bedrooms for the children?

Good question! You can assume that the son would sleep in the common room or gentlemen's library (on usual occasions) and the daughter in the parents' bedroom.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
