Are you a teacher or parent who wants to get kids immersed in fantasy gaming without screens or phones? If so, this guide is a great place to begin.

What's inside Tabletop Gaming Intro and Factions Challenge Review Game:

  • A wealth of accessible information about how to use tabletop RPGs in the classroom
  • Detailed examples
  • Resource lists and materials descriptions
  • Factions Challenge, an original low-prep TTRPG-style review game for any content area grades 7-12.
  • 1:1 conversion from Jeopardy!-style review games.
  • Commentary on expanding the review game into an in-depth tabletop RPG for the classroom.
  • FAQs and advice for the teacher who wants to implement TTRPGs like D&D into their curriculum but does not know where to begin.

This document, written in the style of a D&D manual, will tell you everything you need to know to begin implementing tabletop rpgs into your classroom or begin getting kids involved at home. The first section explains tabletop gaming in depth. Section 2 offers a simple, original review game called Factions Challenge that is low-prep and high-engagement for students. The game also serves as a gateway to the world of tabletop gaming, distilling complicated game concepts into simple dice rolls and building student background knowledge for teachers who want to experiment with more complicated tabletop RPG gaming in the classroom.

This document was made after 2 years of game-testing in a secondary English Language Arts classroom. Section one of this guide is deliberately designed for the teacher with zero knowledge of games like Dungeons and Dragons or Pathfinder--it's meant to be a jumping-off point. I designed section two as a universally-accessible introductory tabletop RPG for classroom use. Section two contains a rule set, character sheets, examples, explanations, definitions, and everything else you need to play my D&D-inspired review game, Factions Challenge.

Too long, didn't read:

This guide is an in-depth introduction to TTRPG use in the classroom and everything you need for a fun, basic TTRPG-style game that will get kids excited and engaged.

Who should use this guide: Anyone who wants to gamify learning and explore the possibilities of TTRPG games in the classroom.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
