Chaos Dragon Wyrmling "WIP"

ADD TO WISHLIST >

Regarding intended design:  The Chaos dragon looks like a constantly shifting amalgamation of all the various chromatic and metallic (and probably the gem and other dragons too why not) dragons.  When combat is initiated the dragon will take on new physical traits based on the rolled result, and these traits will be swapped out at the end of the dragon's turn each round.  When the table is rolled on the dragon's appearance shifts and damage type changes, and this is intended to allow players a moment to prepare and try to get some idea what the dragon will do during its next turn.  As for the wild magic bite, the idea is the dragon should roll on the Wild Magic Surge table every turn of combat it is unable or decides not to use its breath weapon.  Also just so we're clear, I do realize that this is definitely not a good idea, and please don't attempt to use this exactly as is.  Finally, I'm not finished as I only have the first 4 done, but you could technically run a boring version where you roll a 1d4 on the included dragon table instead of the eventual 1d100.

Well, I decided I wanted to create Dungeons and Dragons content, but most of the stuff I want to do is hard and complicated and I want it to go really well, so I decided to take Simone Giertz's advice and start by making stuff that I just think is fun and don't care nearly as much about to start off instead.  So when I talked with a friend about dragons today and came across this really cool article again, I thought that I may as well see what happens.  (Of course in doing this I realize that I'm messing it up by doing something entirely too large and too complex but whatever at this point.)

Essentially this is a dragon of chaos magic, at the begining of combat add the end of the dragon's turn the DM rolls on the d100 table to determine what damage type the dragon is resistant to for that round as well as what type of breath weapon it will use if it is recharged.  Also whenever it doesn't use its breath weapon, have it roll on the wild magic surge table.  Fair warning I have done no playtesting on this, and honestly I just kind of threw it together in a few hours because I really felt like it, but I thought I might want to put it up here anyway despite the distinct lack of redeemable qualities.  There is a good chance I will come back to this and attempt to create older versions of this little guy and make balance and clarity improvements (considering the majority of these damage numbers are from me looking at the other wyrmling dragons and thinking about it for half a second balance changes are almost certainly necessary).

I used the template from:  https://www.reddit.com/r/UnearthedArcana/comments/7w5ktk/i_put_together_an_easytouse_template_for_monster/

And I got the idea and much of the actual content from:  https://koboldpress.com/100-dragon-breath-weapons/

Also if using the list from the article isn't allowed I will take it down and either revise it with a new list or figure something else out, I think it should be ok since I won't charge for this and I think I definitely added a lot to the original concept, but I will understand if I'm not doing fair use correctly.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
