4.5 STARS! "Great Gilded Guilds is an excellent, guide-focused supplement that helps DMs build evil organizations and apply them in their unique settings. While limited in scope and occasionally verbose in style, the content is insightful, high-quality, and absolutely necessary for any Dungeon Master and World Builder who wants to take their settings to a professional and immersive level."

As an actual guide to building a guild this is actually not that great, unfortunately that is what it is advertised as. The guilds and characters it creates and supplies you with however is fairly high quality. The only 2 guilds you really get out of this that are super expandable is the Thieves options, or really a variety of options from a gambling den. It included the slavers guild idea and gives you some ideas for creative expansion for each of what each guild could provide. In the actual creation of ideals, or structure, this guide falls somewhat flat overall. Not to mention while it creates a church guild as an example it never actually lists it among the other guilds leaving an example but no blurb where the rest are all otherwise included. It also lacks the entirety of some semblance of a mages guild. Is it worth your 5.99$ in its current state? No.

Hey there! Sorry the guide didn't give you what you were looking for in terms of building a guild. Each of the sample guilds were constructed with the system found on page 8. That page is where you may want to look if you're thinking of creating a guild. We're always open to criticism and feedback and I appreciate what you've given us here. Can you tell us specifically what you were hoping to find in this product?

I'm sorry if I came off as scathing in my review but I had expected to find, several guild structures for example how one would build a mages guild. From what kind of people it takes in i.e only wizards(any school) or if it will take in both bards & wizards. Maybe a new one that better details cults for warlocks or even temples and religious orders for monks. Data and lore for the churches of several gods as you mentioned. Maybe a guild or two for fighters who take contracts or manage fights in the city (if sanctioned). I was mostly hoping to find a couple guilds that had some options for inspiration, id certainly help lend a hand if you'd like but if not that is understandable.

Thank you very much for your reply! We tried to be very direct in our description that this was a guide for secretive, money making guilds. We wanted to focus on thieves guilds and other like minded organizations. We'd love to make a product about those other topics and we'd welcome your feedback any time you'd like to give it. We take our work here very seriously and will try to be mindful in the future should our product descriptions appear misleading.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
