Homeland Feats: Ribbons for Forgotten Realms Locales

Homeland Feats introduces 100 minor, situational mechanical benefit feats related the environment and culture of your characters' homelands. Unlike feats given every four levels, these feats are not intended to provide great mechanical advantage, but rather to enable the flavor of—and further exploration of—both character backgrounds and Faerûn. I recommend giving them to players at character creation or at a relevant point in the narrative of your game.

These feats were created by researching lands across Faerûn and the Far Lands. Some homeland feats have prerequisites, as they are exclusive to the cultures, knowledge, or classes relevant to them, but most are available to all. From Port Nyanzaru to Waterdeep, these feats have you covered!

Are these intended to be used in the same manor as feats, or are they more like blessings/boons? Feats are all about giving up +2 (or +1, for some lesser feats) in an ability score vs a mechanical advantage. These are more like... ribbons one might give away on top of a magic item.

They're intended to be used in a similar (though, as you say, less powerful) manner as racial feats—something to add to character creation and roleplay rather than significant mechanical advantage. Some will be more applicable to certain campaigns than others (for instance, not all DMs pay attention to travel/wilderness rules), but the homeland feats are intended to provide ribbon-ish flavor from the culture/locale of a character's home without stepping on rangers' toes or requiring a rebalancing of a character.

Fair enough. Aside from a Variant Human, though, you don't get feats at character creation. I would have named these boons or made them racial variants or something to differentiate it but I'm glad you were able to clarify your intent.

From XGE (racial feats, p. 73) "the cause of a particular transformation is up to you and your DM. A transformational feat can symbolize a latent quality that has emerged as you age, or a transformation might be the result of an event in the campaign, such as exposure to powerful magic or visiting a place of ancient significance to your race." Specifically I'd say these are in-line with latent qualities from a character's homeland, but thank you for the feedback!

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.
Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
