The Sorcerer and the Weave

ADD TO WISHLIST >

The Sorcerer and the Weave is a product reexamining the sorcerer class as presented in the fifth edition Player's Handbook. This build incorporates some of the spell points rules from the Dungeon Master's Guide, as well as changing some of the flavor of the class to try and better capture the original flavor of the class.

-The updated sorcerer class

-Three brand new sorcerous origins built into the class: the flametouched, the godkissed, and the warborn

-Revised rules for multiclass spellcasting

-An examination of the sorcerer class within the game world, the class's relationship to the Weave, and some of the secrets of spellfire

-A peek behind the DM screen to explain some of the changes

-And more...

This book is currently in Alpha release. What that means is that it's being offered at a lower price as the design is refined, and we garner additional interest—as well as funds to add more artwork, finer layout, and potentially set up the book for you to print-on-demand. As the book gets updated and the price goes up, early adopters will continue to receive the newer version absolutely free, in addition to your chance to help shape the further development of the class.

Some things you can expect as development continues:

-More artwork to help visualize and immerse

-Cleaner layout

-Another professional editing pass

-Some new spells, exclusive to the sorcerer class

-New archetypes, shaped by the feedback we receive from our readers

So from the reviews and previews, I'm taking that this book is still a work in progress. I'm interested in buying the book, as a sorcerer is my favourite class to play, but it has some glaring issues, however, I will do so only if I know that this is still being maintained and worked on. So my question is - Is this book still being worked on or is it abandoned and when can we expect the finished version to come out if it is still being worked on?

Hi, Vladko!

Yes, the pdf is being revised, but some other work and some day-job and family challenges have prevented moving forward for a few months. A new version of the file will be up in mid- to late September. Additional versions beyond that will depend on feedback from readers and players that have had the opportunity to get this version of the sorcerer on their tables.

I'd be happy to know what glaring issues you're seeing. If there's something wrong, I of course would like to address it!

Hey Brian.

Thank you for the clarification. As of now I have bought and read the book and I must say I really enjoy the way you have changed the sorcerer.

As for my issues with the current version of the sorcerer, I always found it annoying that it is basically a slightly worse version of the wizard, that could cast fewer spells. While metamagic helps, you learn too few of them to be useful outside and in combat, making you choose between RP and combat, some of their costs being unreasonable for the effects and the sheer fact that there isn't all that many to choose from. Finally, probably my biggest problem with the sorcerer is the Lvl 20 talent, allowing you 2 Lvl 1 spells per short rest. A talent that should in all fairness be granted to the sorcerer at an early level.

After reading the book and marveling at the lore and insights as to how and why you made changes, I really like what you did with the sorcerer, but the Lvl 20 talent is still a problem, along with the fact...See more

Ah! I agree with you on many of your points on the core sorcerer. For some reason, I thought your "glaring issues" were concerns with the class as presented in the preview and description. I'm delighted to hear that you're enjoying the book so far!

Of course, I welcome any feedback you have on the build of the book: things you think are too powerful or lack enough "oomph!," text that could be clearer, sorcerous origins you'd like to see added, or anything else. Please feel free to email (using the address in the Introduction to the book), and I'll be happy to respond, and to see about incorporating your thoughts into future iterations.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
