Adrift

ADD TO WISHLIST >

Adrift is a high-level one-shot horror adventure designed for characters levels 13-16 and is expected to take 4-6 hours. A great deal of the time is due to the fact that higher level combat can go quite long compared to combats at lower levels. The horror aspect in this adventure comes from some of the menacing creatures your players will face - such as the deadly corpse angler and a swarm of hallucinogenic jellyfish that may cause players to be overcome with the desire to eat their own fingers. The players will face the wrath of a deadly storm as well, and all from aboard a small wooden raft that they must protect at all costs. If the party can’t defeat the Tyrant of the Depths in its aquatic lair, then hundreds of thousands will die - quite the stakes as the party goes Adrift!

This is the first very high-level adventure I have crafted and I did my best to make the combat encounters challenging across a range of difficulties but with high-level parties, the power-levels can vary drastically. Feel free to adapt the monsters to your individual party or use a higher APL if you have a particularly strong group. I did my best to ensure the setup prevents even powerful magic from interfering with the quest, but I cannot account for all possibilities so you may need to improvise if your group is particularly clever!

Adventure Description

A storm of unparalleled power is brewing out in the Dark Mist Sea. An evil entity that shrouds its location with obscuring magics has set in motion a ritual to conjure this cataclysm. If it completes, hundreds of thousands will die from the tsunamis that will crash against the coastal cities. Fortunately, these helpless citizens have been given a chance thanks to the ingenuity of a particularly skilled artificer. He has crafted a device that can track the source of this evil, with the conditions that the device remains in the water and remains intact. This is where your party must step in to help. Someone must accompany the raft into the heart of the storm, facing down fifty foot high waves, the monstrosities of the deep, and nightmarish creatures that have risen to the surface as they scramble in fear of the approaching cataclysm. Prepare to go adrift.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
