Into the Frozen Wastes

Into the Frozen Wastes is a one-shot horror adventure designed for characters levels 7-10 and is expected to take 3-5 hours. This adventure is a combination of fighting against the deadly wrath of nature and a set of four undead horsemen that seek to raise an army of the dead. The players will be forced to find ways to stay warm, survive an avalanche, scale a wall of ice, and other challenges as they hunt down each of these powerful foes and slay them. I would consider this adventure to be lighter than the others in the set in terms of horror - mostly using the fear of becoming helplessly stranded and freezing to death as they attempt to finish their quest. The combat is challenging, but the deep snow and unique abilities of the Dread Riders should lead to an interesting night for combat-loving parties.

This adventure also includes 12 new creature stat blocks including goliath skeletons, dread steeds, four different dread riders, and a zombified mammoth!

Adventure Description

The land to the far north is considered uninhabitable by even the most stubborn and arrogant of goliaths. The temperatures there are well below freezing and drifts of snow are deep enough to consume an entire horse. Most believe this is merely an artifact of mother nature - a land naturally formed that is not suitable for the living, but the goliath and orcish tribes in the north all have their own myths and stories about these frigid wastelands. Myths about the undead menace that once plagued the land; creatures that refused to stay dead and instead had to be frozen beneath thick layers of ice. Unfortunately for the inhabitants of these mountains, the four horsemen these legends spoke of have risen once again. They seek to slay the nomadic tribes of the north to rebuild an army of undead to conquer the lands of the living, unless of course a group of heroes can stop them first.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.
Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
