"An incredibly useful tool which has many different applications and uses. Rob Twohy does it again!" - Jonathan G. Nelson (AAW Games)

Want to travel in a world where the fall of the dice can make things appear randomly? Get completely lost in this book with multiple quests and worlds of your choosing, without a DM. This book could even help you world build for your very own campaign.

Scott Niedjela

Sick of not being able to find a game? Have a burning passion for D&D and everything it represents, but no way to indulge that passion in actual gameplay?

5e Solo Gamebooks presents The Solo Adventurer’s Toolbox. This book is the result of many months’ work and represents a complete system for generating on-the-fly, detailed, immersive solo adventures.  And by solo, we mean true solo, without a dungeon master.

Using this system, paired with 5e mechanics, you can guide your PC or PCs solo through any adventure environment, creating meaningful adventures for them as they journey in the Forgotten Realms (or a campaign setting of your choice).

The Solo Adventurer’s Toolbox covers a variety of topics including quest generation, random encounter generation, random dungeon generation, random wilderness exploration, discovering settlements, merchants and shopping, downtime activities, random NPC generation, and systems for generating infinite monster encounters all tailored towards the solo PC.

In addition to being a go-to for solo D&D gamers, it also happens to be an excellent tool for DMs as well. The breadth of tables makes it an invaluable tool for brainstorming adventure ideas. This book, paired with your creativity, will enable you to create endless adventures for your weekly game, possibly as you guide your own PC or PCs through them. This is a one-of-a-kind product.

LIST OF CHAPTERS

Chapter 1: Introduction and Overview of Chapters

Chapter 2: We examine the Question / Answer Mechanic that I have created for use with the resources in this book. This simple system allows you to gain answers to any question in the same way as a system like Mythic GM Emulator, but far more stripped down.

Chapter 3: Deals with travel, modes of travel, weather, camping, unmarked settlements and the like. A more detailed system for wilderness exploration is outlined in Chapter 9.

Chapter 4: Wilderness encounters. In this chapter, you will find a d100 table of random wilderness encounters, all with an open-ended nature so that they can be interpreted differently every time. You can use these, or you may choose to use the encounter generation tools in Chapter 14.

Chapter 5: The same as above, but for urban settings.

Chapter 6: The same as above, but for dungeon settings.

Chapter 7: Contains tools for generating quests for your solo PC or PCs.

Chapter 8: Contains tables for the random generation of dungeons and their contents.

Chapter 9: Contains tables for the random generation of wilderness terrain and its contents.

Chapter 10: Contains guidance on merchants and shopping while in settlements.

Chapter 11: Contains guidance on downtime activities for your solo PC.

Chapter 12: Contains some ideas about roleplay in the solo format.

Chapter 13: Tables for the random generation of any number of NPCs you might meet on your travels.

Chapter 14: A collection of tables designed to generate an infinite number of random encounters in any environment, and also answer detailed questions framed by the player.

Chapter 15: A slightly experimental chapter dealing with monster tactics.

Chapter 16: Contains tables to generate monster encounters, with difficulty adjusted for the solo PC. Tables are arranged by environment type and CR.

Chapter 17: Loot tables, Individual and Hoard, arranged by CR.

Chapter 18: An example of solo gameplay using this system.

The biggest plus is having all the tools you need to solo in one place. I've used a lot of system-agnostic GM-less tools and they tend to require a fair amount of additional supplementation to cover all the bases… The Solo Adventurer's Toolbox provides a complete system for playing 5e without a DM and a powerful tool for generating encounters, quests, NPC's and places of interest. Easily customizable to fit your game-world and level of desired complexity, with a consistent format that makes modifying the tables to fit your personal preference a breeze. This toolbox is an all-in-one gift to Solo Players!

Jay Davies

Essential for any DM, even if you have no interest in solo adventuring whatsoever! The breadth of tables and ideas presented in this document warrant the price of admission alone!

Aaron F.

The Solo Adventurer's Toolbox contains a plethora of resources to create adventures, worlds, and random encounters and events to fill your D&D sessions. It's a great resource for solo adventurers, but it's also a wonderful inspiration for DMs to create interesting and unique adventures for their players.

Kristina Chun

Imaginative and wide-reaching... I had problems taking breaks from solo-ing to play with friends!

John Todsen

I couldn't wait to get started on my personal campaign. I'm using a journal to keep myself honest and to keep for worldbuilding notes.

Josh Law from StrMod

Nice for a player. A must for a DM.

Patrick Higingbotham, NonZero Sum Games

What impressed me the most was seeing the question I had answered come to life. In solo play we can reach a level of detail that is very intuitive, rivalling even a group setting.

Timothy Arthur

All in all, this book is a must-have for those looking to explore the concept of solo play with D&D, within any campaign setting.

Thank you everyone who brought this book to FGU! I'm inspired by it so GREATLY that I didn't notice it's been more than 7 hours since I started reading it! :)

And I have a proposition for the Experimental Part in Chapter 12: Roleplaying.
I think I found a way to enable Roleplaying in Solo RPGs with tables, but with a twist!

Chapter 12: RPing offers Agreeing rolls for NPCs but it sees NPCs as tools for PCs to use. Don't get me wrong, I'll still use it but NPCs can be brought to life with simple tables. I propose an interaction system that can be added in this experimental part to be used in RP as well as combat.

NPC Interaction Table.

After we determine that if an NPC is friend or foe, we can use would-be NPC Interaction Table (in conjunction with Emotions Table!) to create RP oriented "action-reaction scenes." This can be even further expanded into long lasting Rivalries, Brotherhoods or Sisterhoods, Love-Hate Relationships, Blood Feuds, Friendly...See more

Also, VIP can be added to Friend/Foe List for RP purposes. VIP can be friend, neutral, foe, or unknown. They can be love interest to be protected at all costs, or an important fugitive for an escort mission. This could add depth into combat and also enables RP oportunities.

They are separate products, with separate commissions, by separate creators, so unfortunately, no.

+1 for a Foundry VTT version - there is a converter for FG to Foundry, but I'll have to test that with a cheaper FG module first. And, there are lots of Foundry modules on sale here, so there's no longer an issue with that I think.

About Foundry, I was wondering. Isn’t it possible to sell the Toolbox or adventures here as zip files and then the users just import em into Foundry (as Tables, Scenes, etc.)<br />
Isn’t it viable?

Is there by chance a Discord group or other community for this? I've not yet got into Fantasy Grounds but considering it because I think Solo Adventurer's Toolbox is so great. Would love to chat with others about how they use it!

There is for the Fantasy Grounds module SPECIFICALLY, in technical terms, customer service and whatnot, but it is NOT a discussion of the material per se, you'd probably want to post in the comments of the PDF for that, but if you're looking to discuss it in technical terms... http://discord.gg/rob2e

IM new to VTT but played 1st/2nd dnd and now want to play 5th ed. I was going to buy FGU but the app. will not work on macbook pro's currently due to bad code so I found FoundryVTT and liked it... My question, is will I be able to purchase FGU adventures or any of your generic VTT adventures for 5th ed and import them to FoundryVTT for solo play...? You have a large collection of solo adventures for VTT (FGU and DDEX) on your site but not sure if they would work with Foundry'sVTT. What do you think?

1. Ok so if Im tied to a macbook and want to start playing the 30+ solo adventures..., I should use Fantasy Grounds FG (NOT unity, as FGU is quite broken for a macbook)?

2. Do I need to be connected online to use the FG and the solo adventures or can I use FG while flying across the Atlantic without wireless?

1. I can’t speak to MacBook as I don’t own one, but I guess that answer would be yes.
2. You do NOT need to be connected to the net to play the solos.

Im back... I can't download FGC as I have an "updated Mac..." FGC only allows older macs. So basically Im screwed because FGU is a piece of !@#$... :/

With that said, I'M surprised you haven't ported over to FoundryVTT... I'm sure you have your reasons but you'd have twice the chance to generate more business which mean more revenue for you.

Foundry has very little content and what they have is ONLY for group play, so your content would fill a MUCH needed audience... There's literally no adventures for solo of which you have a lot of. Plus the VTT engine for Foundry is much better than Fantasy Grounds over all EVEN if the FGU engine was working well.

Can't. It's against DMs Guild ToS. Anything on DMs Guild is EXCLUSIVELY there and CANNOT (under any circumstance) be sold on any other platform.

I would ask who is dictating licencing on DMsGuild but I'm sure there is a reason why DMsGuild won't license to BeyondDnD. Both are competition for each other I'm assuming and we, the users get frustrated because of the greed/politics and just give up... and play Baulders Gate 3 or Solasta.

It's for 5E only. It's really sold on the DMs Guild, but it just so happens that you can find it also on DrivethruRPG by bouncing back and forth or mixing URLs.

Hi Rob,
Sorry to bother you, hope you can help me out. I purchased the Solo adventurers toolbox from drivethrough rpg and following the instructions, placed the .mod file into the modules file in the Fantasy grounds folder, module does not appear in the library. I updated fantasy grounds, restarted and still the module is not there. This program is not the unity version. it's version 3.3.10 Any help would be appreciated.

This sounds like a great product. Are there any video demonstrations? I'm fairly new to D&D so don't think I could utilise the standalone PDF but would happily purchase this module and Fantasy Grounds if it meant I was able to automate the scenario/scene generation for my PCs to play through. Is that basically what this provides?

Quick question, I own the PDF version and i was wondering if the FG version has all the tables added as rollable/automated?

I'm assuming, yes it does, but I've seen some FG stuff that basically ends up being a hard to read/navigate poor man's PDF too XD. Thought i'd double check!

This is filled with so much great content. I and a friend have been using it for our gaming experience, its really a great piece. Chocked full of adventure ideas, plot's, and hook's that can be used. It truly simplifies encounter generation for a solo game or a duo group run. It helps with generation of room contents, dungeon design, and much, much, more.

Fantastic product! Keep up the great work.

Hi, I just purchased this. I have found that when I click the generate button on many of the templates with embedded tables, like a Tavern or an NPC for instance, the resulting story entry comes up with blanks for the various lines. I don't see any other instructions other than clicking the generate button. Am I doing something wrong, or is it an issue with the product? Thank you.

Thanks again for the help in troubleshooting this with me, Rob. Everything is now working great. For anyone else that may run into this issue, I had a Fantasy Grounds Extension named "Generators" that adds extra table generation options to the "Options" menu. One of the settings is called "Generators: Apply synchronous behavior to classic tables" which was defaulted to On. After flipping that one to off, everything works as intended.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
