Invigorate your warlock character and please your patron!

Tome of the Pact is a love letter to the warlock class, featuring:

  • 4 new otherworldly patrons: the chaotic creature of Limbo, the reliable patron of Mechanus, the oracular storm giant, and the entity of the harvest.

  • 29 new invocations, including new cantrip effects. Fall in love with new signature spells with invocations breathing new life into spells like arms of Hadarhunger of Hadar, and crown of madness.

  • 144 flavorful quirks, with tables specific to every patron and patron's pact boon.

  • Alternative class features for specific patron creatures from each canon warlock patron, creating slight modifications to better fit the flavor of your particular patron.

  • Roleplaying tips and ideas for specific patron creatures, along with suggestions for likely servants.

  • Two new backgrounds with fully populated bonds, flaws, etc. Play as an eldritch cultist or far plane wanderer!

  • Three new magic items, from name-seeing amulets to fiend-biting whips.
  • Love eldritch blast? Too bad! It only appears once in the supplement, and only as a joke!

Thanks to the incredible support for the project, I've updated it to V1-2, with a new Harvest patron, more invocations, and magic items!

This is great. I have noticed a couple of items that may be worth addressing, though. (If I have more suggestions later, I'll mention them as replies to this comment.)

Firstly, the Famine feature granted by the Harvest patron is somewhat vague about what happens when the warlock is surprised. As written, it (reasonably) implies that the feature can't be used since the warlock's reaction is unavailable until his or her first turn. However, it says both "immediately [when you roll initiative]" and "in the first round," which could lead to confusion about this case since the warlock has a reaction available by the end of the first round. Assuming both restrictions apply as written, the phrase "in the first round" doesn't seem to add any additional information (unless you meant that the warlock can't use the feature when joining the fight mid-combat).

The other note I have is that "random numbers instead of footprints" sound too chaotic for a patron...See more

What is the "average of the die's maximum value"? The maximum value of a d10 is 10. The average of { 10 } is 10. Isn't that just max damage?

I think they mean the average value of the die. So a d10 would be 5, a d12 would be 6, etc.

The average value of a die is the (number of sides/2)+1

What are the odds of this getting a print on demand version?

The Guild has stopped most print on demand options for now. I’ll definitely explore the idea if I opens back up in the future!

This is a fabulous resource! Great ideas for DM's and players to add flavor to so many aspects of the 5e Warlock Class!

I've got a couple editing notes for an updated publication:

pg 29: The Expanded Spells for the Nature patron say "Mechanus" in the flavor text
pg 30: There is an errant "TEXT" at the end of the Nature Patron section
pg 36: would suggest trying to shorten or reformat the Mechanus patron section to get rid of the two sole lines on a page.

Amazing job on this!

I'm very looking forward to reading this. It's my belief that warlocks have the coolest role play potential, but also suffer as being one of the most underwhelming classes (especially if you choose to not be an eldritch blast spammer).

Looking forward to reading this and the invocations.

*Edit* Quick glimpse over, I'm loving the direction you took with Nix's Seventh Bell, Plague of Baalzebul, Touch of Levistus and Zariel's Wrathful Strike.

I'm also really liking Shadow Veil

The love the theme of the Creature of Limbo, but the patron feels a bit weak to me. The 10th and 14th level abilities seem fine, but those are much later on and most PCs won't reach those abilities. The 1st level ability is hard to get excited for since most of the skills you'll roll are based on STR, DEX, or WIS - things your warlock probably won't be terrific at, so it'll probably give you only a middling score at them.

My recommendation - give them double their proficiency bonus as well. This makes it a true wild talent - you're randomly REALLY good at a thing, but you never know what it'll be.

The teleport also feels a bit weak as an action. At the same level you've got options for both Misty Step and Thunder Step. I'd say either make it a bonus action (which is good because it won't interfere with spellcasting, as it isn't a spell), or buff up the range a bit if it remains an action. The other thing is it says to designate each space adjacent to the target and roll a d4 - if you're...See more

No, I appreciate the feedback! I think I agree with your suggestion for Indiscriminate Talent and it would make it feel more significant.

For the teleport ability, I’ll work on the wording to clarify that it targets the intersection of four spaces, thus the d4 roll. I thought about the space/d8 approach, but thought it would grind play to a halt a little too long as the player designated 8 spaces before rolling whenever they used the ability, and that the variance on spaces was a little too high.

Thanks! That makes sense. One other thing I noticed is that the invocation that enhances Chill Touch adds cold damage - but Chill Touch doesn't actually deal cold damage, it does necrotic. I'm not sure if that was intentional or not to split the damage type two ways.

It was, mostly to fit with the theme of the name (Levistus being encased in ice)

Warlock bonus spells are added to the spell list- Witch Bolt is already in their spell list, yet is listed under the creature of limbo expanded spells.

Hi Peter,

The Limbo expanded spells should have 'chaos bolt' listed, not witch bolt.

Just started reading this tonight - one of my biggest pieces of feedback so far is that right now a lot of the Mechanus abilities are kind of penalties to use. They all do "half the maximum value of the dice", which is less than average. IE: For a d10, the average roll is 5.5, and with that feature you're taking a 5. So for consistency, you're actually doing a everything a little -worse- than normal, AND removing your ability to crit, which feels like a bit of a drag for your only level 1 class feature. To make it a little more enticing, I might make it "half of the dice +1", which always puts you just a smidge above average. It's also how 5e does 'average' HP and such. (d12s get 7, d10s get 6, etc).

That's a version I originally used, changed, and almost changed back to before release. I'm considering changing it to match WotC expectations of average die value when I add the expanded content.

Another potential idea could be, "while using this ability you cannot suffer disadvantage, but also cannot gain advantage". Gives it more tactical applications.

I just want to be sure before I get this, because some of my friends are pretty serious about things. Is this book official?

Nooooo. This site is for independent creators to make content using WotC IP--so we can use Forgotten Realms, Eberron, deities, characters, etc. all legally, but this NOT official WotC content. Plenty of the content on this site is high quality and well-balanced, but only content from WotC, Adventurer's League, and some of the Adept products are AL Legal / produced by WotC directly.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
