RETURN TO THE MISTS WITH THE RAVENLOFT GAZETTEER

This atlas updates and brings forward to 5th edition some of the Domains of Dread from past editions.

2

Includes:

3 3 4

Volume 1: The Jagged Coast. A den of pirates, capitalist evil and crimson death. Includes the corruption riddled port city of Martira Bay, the garden city of Rivalis, the horrors of the Crystal Gardens, the haunted Van Richten estate (home of legendary vampire hunter Rudolph van Richten) and the hideous Greywood.

Volume 2: Forest of Shadows. A woodland where secrets are spun in the darkness. Includes the eponymous monster-infested forest and the military encampment of Nartok.

Volume 3: Necropolis. A city of the dead where the living are not suffered to...well...live. Undead lurk around every corner, and there's more negative energy (and attitudes) than you could shake a bodak at. Includes rules for the Rotting Shroud, rotting encounters, rancid rumours and ossified locations. Also details the Grim Fastness, lair of Death, a CR25 demilord of dread.

Where can I find the 5e rules for fear, horror and madness, power checks, etc...?

The Dungeon Master's Guide for 5e covers the rules for Madness, Fear, Terror and so on under the Dungeon Master's Workshop (Chapter 9, I believe?). I'm not allowed to reproduce them verbatim under the terms of the license, but it should all be covered there. Dark Powers Checks are a hot topic - the official 5th edition conversion for Ravenloft "Curse of Strahd" did away with them entirely, though I know some people prefer to keep using them. I revised them myself, along with a few other mechanics, in "Barovian Nights - A Curse of Strahd Expansion". When I have enough feedback on how people felt about them, I may include copies with all the Gazetteers - I'm just not 100% sure on how they've been received yet. In short though, 5th ed Ravenloft doesn't presume a need for Dark Powers Checks, so this should be playable without them.

I'm enjoying this book very much! Thanks

I noticed that the timeline jumped a few years since the 3e. But I’m not sure in which year it stopped. I also would love to see Azalin’s stats. Where can I find these informations?

Very perceptive! There has indeed been a slight time jump. Unfortunately, the only canon source for Ravenloft 5e (Curse of Strahd) doesn't tell us exactly how far time has progressed since 3rd edition. We have to assume it's been at least few decades based on the available evidence, but I've deliberately avoided committing to a precise date until we get more intel on this. If we ever do get a precise date, I'll be sure to revise accordingly.

Azalin's Stats, and the stats for Castle Avernus, are slated for release in Part VIII - "Castle Avernus".

This book covers the entire domain of Drakon, or just the Jagged Coast?

The Darkon Gazetteer currently covers the Jagged Coast, the Forest of Shadows and Necropolis. More parts are scheduled for release when Darkon reaches certain sales milestones, and anyone who already owns Darkon will get those updates for free.

Thanks for the reply! I'm buying!
I'm starting a campaign in Darkon, and I would like to explore more of this domain. So, I wonder if there is a ball park for when this might happend! I mean, when did you release the first part? Was a long time ago? And how is the sales going?

I wish I could be more specific, but I expect the next parts should be on the way soon. Other Gazetteers for other domains are scheduled for release in the next few months, which tends to boost some of the older ones. It's also true that a lot of people pirate my stuff - I can't stop that, but I can delay new releases until I hit my targets. If I had to guess I'd expect Electrum to happen sometime in the next month or two.

Hey, I love this! It is so great to see the Domains of Dread getting their 5e due! Any idea when the Electrum editions will be out? I'm really excited to see how you handle the Mistlands, they're my favorite part of Darkon. Thanks!

Oso,

I'm eagerly anticipating being able to release parts 4 & 5, which will emerge from the mists when Darkon becomes an Electrum seller (meaning it has to sell a certain number of copies). We're well on our way, so with any luck we'll be able to release soon! I'm glad you like it so far, it's been a pet project for some time.

Not sure if I missed it or if you just haven't converted it but do you have 5E stats for Azalan Rex himself yet? If so where is it located, and if not are you planning on converting him?

Marcus,

Looks like the product description on this one is broken, which is probably the source of the confusion. I'll take a look at it later on and get it back up and running. To answer your question, there are definitely plans to release Castle Avernus and Azalin. The Gazetteer currently comprises parts I-III out of VIII, with more parts being released as it reaches various bestseller ranks. We're currenly sailing towards Electrum, which will release Part IV: Mistlands, and Part V: Boglands

The maps on page 2 and 10 are low resolution in the PDF. Also is there any way to get a higher resolution version of the maps of the realm?
Customer avatar
Oliver C February 08, 2019 12:22 pm UTC
CREATOR
Hey James,

Yes, I agree the world map is a little small. I'd planned to save the High-Res map of Darkon for Issue VII, to make sure the final version is correct in case I end up making any changes as time goes on (as I undoubtedly will.) If you'd like a better version of the working copy, email me at oclegg@yahoo.co.uk and I'll can give you the draft version.

I'm a one man band for the most part, so I can't say precisely how long it will be between issues but if you follow my Twitter [@deathbybadger] I always post there when I release something new. The plan is to release the Darkon volumes first, but I may tackle other domains on the way if I need a change of pace. Forlorn is high up on the list. :)

Castle Avernus as well as the asylum in Dominia have me waiting as well. I started a 3 group play by post campaign in this asylum with a PCs woke up underneath white sheets strapped to the beds. They had to solve various puzzles to get out.

Great work!

After spending only half a session in their homeland of Midgard, and now over a year (irl) in Barovia, I've been trying to decide what to do after Strahd is defeated. Then as if the mists themselves part to show me the way, this wonderful Ravenloft content appears! I look forward to the next one, and can't wait to use this content to explore the power vacuum Strahd's death will leave behind.

Great work so far. Finding good updates to Ravenloft has been an uphill struggle for me. BTW, you missed the Ankheg for your random wilderness encounters list.

Here's hoping for Gazetteers for Forlorn and Odiare.

Sure :) If this one does well, then I'll start thinking about a schedule for the later volumes, and perhaps opening it up to submissions as you suggest. It all rides on how this goes, so watch this space!

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.
Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
