Title

New! Improved! Version 2 uploaded 31 December 2018!

The Guildbook now contains:

  • An all-new Wizard subclass
  • An all-new Waterdeep background
  • Lore on Waterdeep magic portals
  • 12 new spells!

Arcane spellcasters resident in the City of Waterdeep are strongly encouraged to join the Watchful Order of Magists and Protectors, founded more than a century ago to defend the City with its magic in time of need, police the use of magic within the city, and encourage arcane spellcasters to use magic wisely and for the common good rather than selfish pursuits.

Members hire themselves out daily to protect the city and its citizens from dangers. From serving as a fireguard in a warehouse full of valuables, to service as a spellguard for a noble, wealthy merchant, or visiting dignitary, a member can earn up to 15 dragons (gp) per night of service.

It is service as a spellguard which caused this book to be created. Over the years the Order has created or acquired a collection of nonlethal spells useful for detaining criminals inside the city without causing damage to property and innocent bystanders. Order members who volunteer as spellguards are given this book on loan to copy, so they can add the unique spells herein to their spellbooks. It is otherwise kept in the Tower of the Order.

We appreciate your desire to join the Watchful Order of Magists and Protectors, and hope your membership is long, happy, and fruitful.

Is this supplement compatible with the Faction system described in the DMG on page 22? I came to this supplement hoping it created ranks for the WOMP. =) I know it wouldn't be cannon, but I'd love for the organization to have ranks to issue players.

There's no reason why it *couldn't* be compatible. It didn't occur to me when I wrote the piece, and now it sounds like a wonderful idea. I'll kick the idea around a bit and see what I can come up with. Thanks for the idea! =)

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
