THE ULTIMATE RESOURCE FOR MAKING NON-PLAYER CHARACTERS MEMORABLE

Long past are the times when you should be using the commoner or guard statblocks in your 5e games... With Adaptable NPCs, you can now add more than 74 new NPC types to your D&D5e campaigns (88 new statblocks in total). Each NPC contains unique lore, art, and balanced stats so you can confidently use them in your campaign.

Did you intend to have a quest giver briefly monologue to your players before sending them on their way, but now your crafty players have coierced this otherwise undeveloped NPC to accompany them? Worry no longer! With Adaptable NPCs, you can have your players accompanied by a king's guard, or have their tales sung by a troubadour. And when these NPCs inevitably get pulled into combat, you'll have unique statblocks for each of them to help combat be engaging and keeping your players on their toes.

Maybe the Big Bad needs dynamic henchmen terrorize the adventurers... Adaptable NPCs has you covered there as well; with detailed lore, awesome art, and balanced stats, you can give your players something engaging.

Forget the Appendix B in the D&D5e Monster Manual or Volo's Guide to Monsters, Adaptable NPCs is the ultimate resource when you want humanoid NPCs to populate your campaign!

Adaptable NPCs includes:

  • 74 New types of Non-Player Characters (with 88 unique statblocks)
  • Challenge Ratings ranging from CR 1/2 to CR 18
  • Detailed lore, amazing art, and unique stats
  • Pog-style tokens for every ANPC (coming soon)
  • 8 short adventures /w digital maps

Wow! Great job with the remastered version. I've been following you all at Grim Press around since you did the Traps and Trammels Kickstarter, and I'd just like to thank you all for the passion and work you put into the new version. You did great!

The content of the book is excellent. The fact that NPCs with a certain amount of background are provided without proper names is a great feature for applying to a home-brewed campaign.
However, the fact that the StatBlocks are images rather than text is a minor drawback.
When importing into certain VTTs, being able to copy and paste StatBlocks as text would streamline the process, so the inability to do so is a bit disappointing. Are there any plans to update this feature? For example, implementing this alongside any future optimizations for SRD 5.2 would be greatly appreciated.
Since ANPCS 2 and later allow StatBlocks to be copied as text, the lack of support for this feature is something I find a bit hard to accept.

Hi Mash,

Sorry about this! I've pushed an update that fixes this issue. You can now copy/paste away the statblocks in this PDF.

I've reviewed the updated document. Thanks a bunch. I think I can make better use of the NPCs in the document.

Love it so far. Needs another proofread, though. The party I am DMing for is already level 12, so I am going to use one of the higher level adventures, and I noticed that Area 14 of Restless Crypt (p86 on the PDF) appears to be missing. An interesting red smear behind that secret door... Ghouls and Ghasts will be joining the combat from sections 13, but there is no reference to 14 - it jumps straight to 15.
I think I am going to add a trap. Maybe a poisonous odor in the back of 5G, giving the party a clue that maybe there is a secret door there. And if the open the door, a poison save or some small bit of damage. Add the grisly remains of the king's last adventuring party - perhaps a lost relative of the Vicar or Sun Knight. Or make it *most* of the old adventuring party, with one or two still awaiting sacrifice to feed souls to the Lich's Phylactory.
You know what.... nevermind. It's more fun to add my own stuff. Leave 14 blank.

love that there's a physical version. Unfortunately the physical version's artwork seems A bit faded. Glad to have it, but it's not as nice looking as the pdf.

I purchased the Bundle and was able to print out NPC's 2 and Npcs of the guild no problem. However this PDF is not printing correctly leaves large blocks of black over images and doesn't print the cream background. Any suggestions?

Hi Matt,

Included as a second download is a .zip file with all of the maps (player & DM) that you can use in virtual tabletops.

If you use the Fantasy Grounds VTT, we have converted the product for that platform already: https://www.dmsguild.com/product/263392/Adaptable-NPCs-Fantasy-Grounds?affiliate_rem=1549348

This is a fabulous bundle, but I'm wondering if there's a version where I can copy off of the NPC statblock? I can do it in Adaptable NPCs II and Calamity, but can only copy the regular page text and nothing in the box from ANPCI.

It would make life a bit easier for use in Roll20 if there was a resource available.
Thanks!

Hi Daniel,
Unfortunately, ANPCs was made with a different method than ANPCs II / Calamity, so this is not possible. For all our future projects, we will make sure you can copy/paste from the statblocks, but I apologize it not being possible for ANPCs I.
Cheers,
Trevor

Hi - some downloads have a 'printer friendly' version. Does this title? I looked at the PDF, there are stellar images, but would like to print out some of the material so I could write on a page, and not use up a bunch of ink or not have the cream/ivory background. Thanks.

If you bought the PDF version, the zip folder contains all of the maps - both DM and player versions.

Also, I will share that this module has been converted into Fantasy Grounds already, and if you own the PDF version, I've bundled them so you can get it at a discount.

Hi Ryan,
It is under your account settings, something about allowing emails from publishers (DMsGuild in this case). I would recommend reaching out to Lysa at OBS, who should be able to help you get a discount code: lysa@onebookshelf.com.

Hi Tim,

Unfortunately there was a small issue with the previous version. All files have been fixed, re-uploaded and passed initial inspection. Assuming no other issues, it should be available Late-May / Early June.

Also, I'm working with the DMsGuild to give everyone a discount code to purchase a print copy if they own the PDF version.

Cheers,
Trevor

Just came in today. Interior art pieces look beautiful, definitely stoke the imagination. Oddly they seem to have printed my book twice. 180 or so pages so I guess one side can get Cheetos finger prints and still have a pristine copy to read too :)

That is certainly odd (and the first I've heard of the issue). I would follow up with OBS customer support and let them know. They will get it fixed for you (I've found their customer support to be amazing).

Thanks but it’s fine. I’ve really enjoyed reading it and the adventure maps and ideas are excellent. I switched up my upcoming session from a map I had to the crypt map in the book. Since I have the pdf, can use it on my tv on the game table for map display in fantasy grounds. One of the best products I’ve bought on here. Thanks again!

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.
pixel_trans.gif
Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
