In legends as old as story itself, mortals tell of the elusive fair folk. Hidden away from the eyes of other societies, these small, secretive souls dwell in deepest forest, on far-flung cliffs, or in the forgotten reaches of the Feywild.

But, such places were not enough for you. Possessed of a desire to wander, you decided to see for yourself what the world had to offer, what wonders exist beyond the bounds of your enchanted homeland.

Faeries are a character race of diminutive warriors, nobles, itinerants, and revellers, each determined in their own way to live their lives to the fullest.

Will you be a pixie, tittering with fey court gossip and weaving potent magics? A sprite, dedicated to using your cunning to overcome all obstacles regardless of size? Or a sylph, a far-flung wanderer riding the winds wherever they blow?

There are so many marvels yet to see in the great unknown, so much to experience, so much to know. What large, grand adventures await your ambitious, tiny traveler?

Surprisingly balanced. Thought it might be to one way or the other, but I liked it. In making a compendium of player option for my group, and will be adding this.

I'm planning on publishing a Tiny race based on these rules (and with the Shrink Object trait because they're pretty useless without) and thought I should check to see if that's OK. I'll credit you, and it's not going to be monetized (in fact, it might not even end up on the Guild, I'm releasing a first draft over on r/UnearthedArcana). I'm also including the Fey Nature trait because it's similarly fey-like.

Sorry if this isn't phrased very well or is in the wrong place, I'm new to publishing homebrew. I'm not even 100% sure if I need to ask, I just felt as though I should for politeness' sake.

Thanks.

Oh, and I won’t actually include the rules, just link to this. The traits are the only bits of your work I’ll use.

Never mind, actually. If you do give permission, thanks, but it doesn't matter too much.

It didn't really work out. I have done some better stuff, though, but it feels wrong to promote it on someone else's work.

So, I love the majority of this (am playing a pixie in a campaign at the moment), there are a few things that my group has homebrewed for thematic reasons that you may or may not be interested in for your creation here.

First, walking speed we made 10 feet, seems low but matches the monster, and with 30 ft fly without a maximum duration, the only times pixies are walking are for flavor.
We did keep the progression of flight from not being able to end turns out of reach to limitless flight.

We got rid of Petite, The idea that you have a disadvantage at all times is grievous to someone who likes to set things up in certain ways to get an advantage to overcome their character's weaknesses, as by the rules if you have a disadvantage, gaining advantage only cancels it out and there is no more advantage or disadvantage from there. Instead, we took a cue from the monstrous races in Volo's and gave a negative to strength, and a Hefty one, -6, with a maximum strength for tiny creatures of...See more

CREATOR
One of my main objectives with making this race was to have it make sense alongside similar race options, and not feel too fundamentally different while, y'know, actually *being* fundamentally different.

The stat minuses in Volo's are a good example. I was considering a minus to Strength early on, but eventually decided against it, which is why Petite exists in the first place. Petite is less about physical strength, more about a lack of body mass, and is there to illustrate the difficulties a faerie has when interacting with the full-sized world without hampering them too much (a faerie can shrink most objects down to manageable size, after all).

With Volo's stat minuses, a question I always found myself having was: Why does this race have them, and this other race does not? Are kobolds really appreciably weaker than your average halfling? What makes an orc have -2 Intelligence, while a lizardfolk has +1 Wisdom?

Overall, minuses to stats in Volo's seemed arbitrary and punitive,...See more

So here is the thing though Strength is not relative to your size a 19 strength means you are as strong as the average ogre, if an Item say a greataxe, is the size and shape for a pixie, as it would be for a human, and it still weighed the same amount, if the pixie has 19 strength it would not be any more cumbersome for them than it would be for a human with 19 strength. The size difference would be the thing that is the issue because anyone who tries to say a rapier the size of a toothpick can deal the same amount of damage as a medium creature's rapier is fooling themselves, and this is represented in the MM with creatures of larger sizes having larger Hit Dice (As the medium weapons in the PHB would doo less to them) and the smaller creatures having smaller Hit Dice. I also point to the spell Enlarge/reduce that to compensate for shrinking to a half its size weapon attacks deal 1d4 less damage than they would normally. AS a note mathematically the permanent disadvantage is equivalent to a minus 10 to strength...See more

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
