Critically Awesome Essentials is an extension framework used for the Fantasy Grounds VTT. It uses modules for different functions.

Now includes CUSTOM tokens, CUSTOM monster shapes, and functionality for one-click polymorph, shape change, and disguise. WOW!

This now includes the Generic Token Swapper which adds the ability to change tokens of players and NPCs on the fly, set custom “shapes”, and also resolves the ever pesky token stack issues. This works for all the rulesets built on coreRPG.

Now include "effects list" to use polymorph etc. DIRECTLY ON NPCs in the combat tracker. 

As Critically Awesome Essentials continues to add functions to Fantasy Grounds, several modules will be released with different functions. Many are already in development!

The first one, presented here with the extension, concerns wild shape functionality for Druids. DM's and player's lives just got a WHOLE LOT easier...

Critically Awesome Essentials is an extension that will change the way you game. It adds functionality to Fantasy Grounds that will skyrocket your gaming experience.

The first module developed is free and included with this extension:

Module #1 - One-Click Druids

This will make Wildshape shape-changing a breeze. The most notable feature is the token change and size adjustment when the shifted effect is applied to the character. All of the wild shapes are stored in Wildshape "spells". They are coded with all the stat changes, attacks, effects, and more! Simply drag the "spell" to your actions tab, click the effect inside the "spell", and watch the magic as you have everything you need, as your new beast form, at your fingertips!

The "spell" descriptions have brief summaries of the beast shapes, explanation of special beast abilities, suggested uses for the Wildshape form, and links to the NPC stat blocks (Mainly intended for the DM to verify information, MUST HAVE Monster Manual and/or Volo's Guide to Monsters loaded to view stat blocks).

Are there any plans to have validation to check if the character is of the appropriate level to shape change into the CR form?

There are mini-guides in the modules, and originally I had thought about adding this validation feature, however; the idea of custom classes that could Wildshape into specific shapes or DM rulings that would change the level requirements (think cloud/sky city settings or a shark race that could be humanoid or turn full shark). Due to these type of things, it was decided to not restrict the shaping based on class nor level. Unfortunately that means the player or DM will need to know the couple rules related to CR vs level. On the positive note, those rules are quite simple. <br>
<br>
So, in short, I do not plan on restricting these. Specifically to allow more flexibility for DMs and players utilizing homebrew rules and settings.

This is an amazing module and it is making my life a lot easier to DM druid. Sadly I am having one player who is having difficulty loading the module for some reason. He has tried on a few different games and it doesn't seem to work for him. It works for other players who have polymorph or are playing druids. Any help you could provide would be greatly appreciated.

Try having them “nuke” their cache before joining the table. When they click on the “join” button, there is a “radio active” symbol at the top right of the view. Have him click that and clear his FG player data cache. Sometimes a player need to do that to get FG to work for them. It’s not an issue with the module. Unfortunately that means that I can only suggest fixes, I can’t fix them for you in code. I hope this helps! Please let me know how it turns out!

Thank you for the rapid reply. He had already cleared the cache...i have a picture or two but the jist of it is when he clicks the load/unload button in the library it changes but the little brown book does not open and the effects i put on his sheet don't show up properly. We will try to brainstorm some solutions and report back. Thanks for the suggestion.

Hi there. Extension owner and big fan of the work here and rob's other titles. I'm play testing this now while my party's druid is lvl 1 so that I'll know how to use it effectively when he dings lvl 2 and starts using it. The only question I have is about the caveat to remove the effect before ending the session. What are the consequences of this? I backed up a campaign folder and did it purposely to try and see what would happen, but don't notice anything. What exactly happens if I forget to remove the effect before ending a session? What is the recovery path to whatever these consequences are?

That suggestion is mainly just best practice. It was left over from before I added stat protection. However it is still applicable since if you turn off the extension before the next session occurs, then it will not revert correctly until you turn the extension back on and apply/remove an effect.

To recover from it, you just activate the extension, and then add and remove a Wildshape.

I have been working hard with someone in an effort to create a collaborative extension that will enhance the gameplay as we know it... we are almost done with it, and should be released soon after play testing finishes.

After that is done, I will return to the Critically Awesome Essentials line and shortly release the v1.0 of DM Tools

As a quick note, there are a few links I noticed in both this module (and One Click More) that lead to the wrong spell effect for wildshape. The spell effects exist - it's just the link to the spell that's broken. There might be more, but quite a bit of poking about has only revealed problems with Giant Octopus and Earth Elemental.

In Critically Awesome Essential's story entries for "Level 4: CR 1 no flying" and "Level 8: CR 1 no restrictions", the "Wildshape: CR 1 Giant Octopus" link leads to "Wildshape: Elemental, Earth". Likewise, in One Click More, the story entries for "Level 4: CR 1 No Flying - Consolidated" and "Level 8: CR 1 no restrictions - Consolidated", the same "Wildshape: CR 1 Giant Octopus" link leads to "Wildshape: Elemental, Earth".

Similarly, in Critically Awesome Essential's story entries for "Level 10: Elementals", the link to "Wildshape: Elemental, Earth" leads to...See more

running the latest version and i can't seem to get the images to show or get the stats to work. What am I doing wrong. I used to be able to get it to work till it changed over to Polymorph; SName:HunterShark as an example.

I am aware of an issue with polymorph on an NPC, and I will be pushing an update to fix it tomorrow.

For the moment, if you continue to have issues... apply the effect in the Purge Data utility spell... remove all effects, and setup the default values for the unshifted version... then reapply to self...

I will look further into the issue. If you continue to have issues, especially after the next update, please let me know

Wondering if it would be a lot of work to add a "Persona" or "Appearance" option for changelings? I realise it's a minor thing because you can make it work with any of the other categories, but what they do isn't really a Disguise, it's certainly not a Wildshape, and Polymorph and Shapechange are for specific spells.

Also, related to use with Changelings, would it be possible to change portraits as well as tokens?

Adding “Persona” or “Appearance” wouldn’t be too difficult to add in as a trigger... it would be possible to change portraits, but that would require much more intense coding time... where the trigger words is a quick add in I can look into this next week... health and family dealing with a flu running through the house (thanks beginning of school year) I haven’t managed to do as much as I’d like because of time constraints... I will look into changelings and add a trigger

The most recent update now supports Appearance and Persona as trigger words, also custom token selection for those triggers is supported on the Notes tab.

Here is a couple troubleshooting steps.
1. The .ext file goes in the extensions folder, not the modules folder.
2. The extension will be in the list of extensions when you load a campaign, check the box next to it to activate the extension for that campaign session.
3. If you are still having issues, try to re-download a fresh copy and place it in your extensions folder.
If you are still having issues then... please let me know, and we will try some other steps to try to figure it out what is going on, so you can enjoy the extension and modules to its fullest.

I have a little Issue with the extension. After loading no NPC Hitpoints is displayed in the Combat Tracker any more PC HP are there as before. IS there any Fix?

The latest update added the Polymorph shapes in the .mod file. All of the Polymorph shapes from the PHB, MM, and VGM on top of the already existing wildshapes. There was a quick update like a day after the Polymorph update, that corrected a couple of small typos in descriptions.

New features will be coming soon, I’m currently working on more content before delving too deep back into the back-end code.

Amazing work. Thank you. Although it does seem kind of crappy to have to pay $150 for a program, $60 for the 3 core books, more money for whatever campaign one buys, and then have to pay another $10 to get the functionality of a basic class feature of a base class that should have been included already.

That's a common comment people make, but SmiteWorks is just a small company with a handful of people. It's not a powerhouse like WotC or Paizo. They do priority work, so they have the intent to put "everything" in, but there are only so many hours in a day. Thankfully they allow people like me to make things for others to enjoy the software better.

These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.
Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
