Jamjie's Travel Guide

ADD TO WISHLIST >

Adventure awaits on the open road! Dungeons and Dragons provides some great tools, feats, spells, and gameplay dynamics for long distance travel, but many DMs struggle to use these elements to make engaging travel adventures. This core rules set ties all of those pieces together into a cohesive framework for DMs to run engaging, adventurous, and fun travel experiences!

December 30, 2018 update: Uploaded rev 2, which includes some minor adjustments based on further playtesting:

  • Reduced base sleep DC from 12 to 10 (p. 14)
  • Added variant rule to ignore water for large parties (p. 13)
  • Provided “stopped” as another pace option (p. 9)

I just finished reading over this and am super excited to implement this into my games!

Do you have any advice or perhaps a condensed rule sheet to share with players? A lot of the content in this shouldn't be shared directly, but a handout for the adapted travel rules would be helpful to implementing into new or current games (especially if players are used to just ignoring travel altogether!).

Great material! I've started using it for my campaign, and I've enjoyed what it's brought to the table in terms of making travel more engaging and real, especially since there's a lot of overland travel in my current campaign.

One thing I house-ruled/added: when a player has sufficient levels of exhaustion to halve their speed (I think it's 2), the party has to move at a Slow Pace to accommodate for it.

Great stuff!

Glad you're enjoying it! Good point about exhaustion slowing the party down, plus at exhaustion level 5 they'd be forced to stop altogether. I'll add those to the list of mods for rev 3. Thanks!

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
