Iymrith's Lair Battle Maps

ADD TO WISHLIST >

This product contains large, encounter-scale battle map renditions of the finale clash in the 5E module Storm King's Thunder. Carefully and faithfully recreated from the original reference maps found in the module itself, these versions are at a high enough resolution and level of detail necessary for use as battle maps. Both the sprawling aboveground colosseum and equally dangerous underground tunnels are included (low-res previews below), with DM versions noting the locations of traps hidden from players in the print version.

Inside the product you'll receive:

  • High-res Digital Files for Virtual Play, with and without grid lines
  • Easy-to-Print PDF files for both Aboveground (16 pages) and Underground (15 pages)
  • Options for printing the maps in pieces using a US Letter sized printer (diagram below) or the entire image at once using a large format printer or local printing shop
  • A bonus battle map of desert ruins using pieces from the Aboveground map
  • A User's Guide for additional context, printing suggestions, etc.

I drew both of these maps myself while relying heavily on the original source images and suggestions from others. It is my sincere hope that they help to bring the exciting final location of Storm King's Thunder to life at your table for you and your players. Hi, I'm looking to buy this but I can only print A4. I understand from the comments that it isn't available cut to A4 sizes but is there anyone who tried to make it work?

Print A4 and get creative with scissors and tape?

I'm not technically adept and have run up against a 100mB limit for online poster printers. Any advice? I'm on a Mac.

Hm... you could try using a compression site like: https://compressjpeg.com/

You can adjust the degree of compression just enough to bring it under 100MB, check on its result to make sure the quality is still at what you want, then use that new version. Alternatively, if you're working with a local printer you may be able to contact them directly about accepting a large format print file and work around the online barrier.

Hi. Just wondering if you might consider releasing a version of this map that is ... the proper scale. The map is amazing and I would buy it in a heartbeat except that it's far, far too small and not true to the original map. Those corridors need to be 2 squares (20 feet) wide for a gargantuan creature. The tents should be four squares as well.
Maybe I'm missing something? Thanks.

Hi Urdu, the map is intentionally scaled down so as to be more realistically accessible for tabletop play; even at this scaled down version it still prints to 44x34 inches for a 1in grid, something that typically takes up most table space. That being said, whether you want to print it for a larger table or just use it in VTT there is a version without a grid so that you may use whatever scaling may be to your preference.

Heya, how do I print this on A4 paper? It's a bit off at the moment, the squares are a little too small and it cuts one row of them in half.

Venatus, do you have any ideas for this? It's slightly off and there has to be a simple solution, the paper sizes aren't too different.

Hi Tim! Apologies--somehow didn't get a notification on your first comment. As far as printing at A4 size, it actually may be a bit tricky to get it exactly right. The 'separated' printing files (and the original drawing itself) were made specifically for US Paper size and while it may seem small, 8.5x11 vs 8.25x11.69 is certainly enough to skew things a bit.

First possible solution that comes to mind is to try printing the '(full)' printing file and follow the steps in this printing guide I've made previously for regular sized battle maps: https://drive.google.com/open?id=1uk2xa1mH-NPskgO6wVRKnktd0kifVhlp

The main difference will be in step 4C where instead of seeing 4 pages and 17x22 you should see somewhere in the range of 16 pages and 34x44 (like the preview image on this product page). That will likely differ somewhat since you will be printing at A4 size instead of US Letter.

Good luck!

Cheers Venatus! It probably didn't help that I posted it around Thanksgiving(I think). Cheers for that, it might be a little bit off, but I think it'll be ok. I might try and print sections from the larger map if I can to patch them together

Both should measure 44x34 for a 1 inch grid, make they're printed using CMYK color settings.

It's a shame I didn't read the description well, I assumed you had both letter paper and A4 options :(

Oh, wow! I'd picked up one of your LMoP sets before, but this is _truly_ gorgeous. I played through SKT when it came out--with the best group of players I've ever had--and have been tempted to run it for my family when we finish our current (all-too-drawn-out) Sunless Citadel campaign. Your map certainly adds to the incentive...

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
