When a galvanice weird goes berserk in an Izzet Laboratory and begins wreaking havoc on its way out, the evening’s events are brought to a halt. Someone needs to head into the lab, look for survivors, and try to find out what went wrong.

This is an introductory adventure for use with Guildmasters' Guide to Ravnica and is set in the Blistercoils neighborhood of Precinct Five in the Tenth District.

While Off to a Weird Start is designed for a party of three to five characters of 1st or 2nd Level, the Dungeon Master can easily scale the adventure up by adding additional enemies or increasing the hit points and damage output of the listed antagonists.

Off to a Weird Start includes:

  • An easy to run introductory adventure for Guildmasters' Guide to Ravnica
  • A new creature: the Lightning Mephit
  • Plot hooks for characters of all ten Guilds, as well as those who are unaligned
  • Part One of the Secrets of the Triskelion campaign, continued in part two: The Palace of Pain's Pleasures

Thanks for the adventure! We've been through it twice with pleasure)
The first time was TPK)
It's a shame the adventure ends at level 8. Are you planning to make a sequel to levels 10 or 12?

Just ran this and oh boy was it interesting. Luckily my players survived (although the Scorchbringers unfortunately did not *presses F*), and the party bard IN THE SAME ENCOUNTER had mephits roll a nat 20 and then a nat 1 on the save against Vicious Mockery.

All in all, it was a nice start as expected, and definitely looking forward to how they take on Pain's Pleasure :3

We're typing as fast as we can :P

My advice would be that you CAN squeeze in a few sidequests & such, though that may get a little stickier as the story progresses.

Just a small thing but it should be Guildmasters' not Guildmaster's both on this page and the document. I look forward to reading this.

I wish there a different way to share suggested edits but here's a few more:
Page Edit
3 Under House Dimir “Rogue” should not be capitalized
4 Under General Features, Light “dancing lights” should be italicized if referring to the spell
4 Under General Features, Light “dimply” lit should be “dimly”
4 “Actions” is a little difficult to read in the creature descriptions. Can it be changed to the same color used in the name of the creature like the MM?
4 If you want to follow the MM conventions then the vulnerabilities, immunities, and senses should not be capitalized
4 Area 1: The paragraph about the guards is slightly confusing. I recommend changing it to something like this: If they want to explore deeper into the laboratory, the party will have to convince the guards they are here to help and not to cause further chaos. If the party helps the guards…”
4 Area 2: DC14 to notice there is no ice? That seems too high/unnecessary
5 So if...See more

Looks excellent so far, very well thought out. The hooks are pretty nice, the puzzle is great, and I really like the new creature. I think the one thing that threw me was the mention of a Tesla coil, first thought was this should be a Mizzium coil.

Thanks so much! I'm glad you are enjoying the read!

You make an excellent point about the coil! I will alter that in the next file update.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
