Waterdeep: Cloak & Dagger

Waterdeep and Undermountain are filled with many strange and secretive factions. From the renegade drow of the Dark Dagger, to the vigilante organisation known as the Red Sashes, this guide will take you through twelve different factions operating in and around Waterdeep. These factions can serve as either allies or enemies. Each faction has its history, purpose and membership detailed, as well as information on joining the faction.

This guide serves as a useful supplement to Waterdeep: Dragon Heist and Waterdeep: Dungeon of the Mad Mage, but can also be used for adventures that take place beyond Waterdeep. These factions can be used to add flavour to an otherwise unrelated adventure, or can serve as the basis for an entire campaign. As well as giving information on new factions, this guide also provides details for new monsters, NPCs and magic items.

Throughout your document, and even here in your summary on DMs guild you have "organisation". Organization is spelled with a Z.

I recommend spell checking your document in MS Word or another word processor.

Also in the Knights of the Shield section under 'Organisation & Members' the second paragraph starts:

"The Iron Throne have the following notable members:" - this appears to be a copy paste error that was not edited to reflect this being the Knights of the Shield section. If you'd like to contact me, id be happy to act as editor for you on this content.

Also, as a hardcore lore chaser of Gargauth in particular, where did you get the information about his strike against Asmodeous during the Second Sundering? I need to read this.

The British spelling of organization is organisation.

Oh interesting, I was not aware. My apologies.

My other two points still remain true though. It refers to Notable members of the Iron Throne within the Knights of the Shield section, and i'm still very interested to know where you found information on Gargauth post-second sundering.

Thanks for catching the Iron Throne/Knights of the Shield mix-up. Should be fixed now.

The Gargauth stuff isn't really based on anything much. As a fellow lore hunter, I'm sure you know that 5e Forgotten Realms lore can been infuriatingly vague at times. That's part of the reason why I decided to write this faction guide. I knew that there was a bunch of cool Forgotten Realms lore that'd be ignored otherwise. Of course, I also tried to add something of my own, to put my own spin in things instead of just copying from lore I'd found elsewhere.

That's where the Gargauth stuff came from. In the Sword Coast Adventurer's Guide (page 139), it offhandedly mentions how he seeks godhood while trapped within a magical shield. There's no explanation for how he came to be reduced to such a sorry state. As such, I decided to come up with an explanation that I thought made sense. To my knowledge, aside from that minor reference in SCAG, there are no post-Second Sundering (or even post-Spellplague)...See more

Yeah ok, that's what ive run into as well. However, I have been able to locate a LOT of old stuff on him, from old supplements to an entry in a single Dragon Magazine article back in the early 90s and such.

There's also several long threads on him over at the forums of candlekeep where people have speculated some things, and we've even received cryptic confirmation from Ed Greenwood on some of the theories. A few tie in with Graz'zt and his parentage, ways the shield could be destroyed, Gargy's dragon pal and how he escaped the pit at Peleveran

This looks great! Lots of useful info for when I move my homebrew group into Waterdeep later on.

Not sure if this will be of much use for my Adventurer's League/Explorer's Guild games outside of flavoring the modules, but still glad to have found this.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
