CCC-AETHER-01-02 The Heir of Orcus: Verse II

ADD TO WISHLIST >

An Adventurers League Con-Created Content Module. Levels 1-4 (Tier 1), 4 Hours. (Compatible with Homebrew games too!)

May I have the next 100 words to convince you to purchase this adventure?

**PITCH BEGINS!**

This module features three ways to play: join the Knights of Holy Judgment, the Cult of Zariel, or the forces of Chaos as you face The Heir of Orcus! Play like it is 1990 and experience the first Adventurer’s League module to use 16-bit art for maps, tokens, NPC portraits, and magic items!

Each purchase includes the PDF, Fantasy Grounds module, one map, 18 tokens, comic art for the backstory, and an imaginary high five from the author. Make a DC 92 Wisdom saving throw. On a success, reroll! On a failed save, buy this adventure!

**PITCH ENDS!**

Author’s note: This is part two of a two part Tier 1 series. I plan to make future Verses if these do well and people like them. Thanks for looking at my adventure and please leave an honest review!

This is a half review, half recommendation post. There are many spoilers.

Really really liked this module. Many tiers better than your average AL module. The fact that it was 7 pages also speaks to its strength in my opinion. I personally hate it when a module is advertised as 2-4 hours and then has a page length >40-50 pages with half a dozen side bars that lay out every single outcome in excruciating detail. Keeping it short and to the point allows a DM to focus on the important stuff and improvise the rest without getting lost in page after page of text.

The area descriptions are enough that a good DM can build on them quickly and lay out all the important info in their own words. The only thing I didn't catch was that the temple should have been visible inside the courtyard (the temple is 60 ft. tall while the walls around it are only 20 feet tall). Aside from that the descriptions were consistent and interesting.

My only gripe about the encounter design was in Area...See more

PLAYER REVIEW: I played this module at Arcanacon yesterday, in a consecutive session immediately after Verse I. We had the advantage of three players remaining with the group from the first session, with some new players joining in as well. The challenges were quite tough, and required our party to work together as a team and to come up with some innovative ideas. So it helped to have some continuity with the playing group from the first session. I really enjoyed the traditional format of this module, and it felt like something we could sink our teeth into!

Eyyy Richard! Thanks again for the good games at Arcanacon and thanks again for bringing your tilesets. If you don't remember I was the Half-Orc Fighter Dunder. I agree with Richard, the fights were pretty tough but were doable in the end.

Ran this today - loads of fun! 1 player ended up as a "chosen one" - I let them see the boxed text for fun. :-D

Are there going to be further modules in this series, and if so, what tier and when should we expect them? I'm certainly intending on buying the next set!

Mark, glad to hear you enjoyed Verse II.Yes, Verse III is near the end of development and premiers at D&FCON online in April 2019. It's a 2 hour (+2 bonus objectives) module and will be for characters 5-10. I hope to complete the series with six verses, all of which premier in 2019. Expect them to go up to Tier 3 content, levels 11-15.

Checking in to see if there’s any news; my players and I are eagerly awaiting Verses 3-6! Hope Verses 3 & 4 are still on schedule for April-any release date for dmsguild?

Mark, the convention in April in which Verse III was going to premier was canceled.

The good news is Verse III is done, but has to wait until it premiers at its new convention in Sep/Oct of this year. Verse IV is set to premier at a AetherCon in November 2019.

I am commisssioning tons of art for these projects, they will be more ambitious than a Verses I & II so I hope to make the wait worthwhile!!

I will need play testers for Verse III so if you are interested in that let me know, you’ll be able to help influence the ultimate product and play it early!

Verse 1 was really great role playing fun, but verse 2 was an action packed explosion of fun. I really loved this module and had an amazing time with everything from the puzzles to the combat.

I had the privilege of playing this (and Verse I) with the author. There are only a few mondules that stand out head and shoulders above the rest. This is one. The graphics (maybe limited to online play, but fabulous nonetheless) were outstanding, the NPCs three-dimensionsional, and the choices have meaning (I know, I apparently took the wrong path). I highly recommend it.

Alright, first I have to say that I loved playing both this and Verse I. They are two of the best mods I've played.

Second, I have a question about the story awards for Verse II. My party in Verse I didn't choose a side. Unfortunately, I was unable to play Verse II with the same party, and my new party was a mixture of Cult and Chaos. We ended up with the Cult ending. My DM didn't give out any story awards, so I didn't know any existed. So, if I didn't choose a side, but went along with the cultists (without joining them), should I have ended up with the Chosen One story award? My DM did say upon entering the temple that I and another player that we heard the voice saying we had been chosen.

Nick,

I can't speak for the DM who ran your session, but the idea is at the end of Verse II, players earn the story awards based off the choices (sides) they choose during Verses I & II. You might be a "Chosen One" :)

There is no story award for "Chaos" in adventure #1, but the DM of #2 could either:

1) Run the adventure using one of the sides mentioned, but then resolve the adventure separately for those who do have the two rewards from part 1, and apply the part 2 stand alone reward for "chaos" for players who do not have the first parts reward.

2) Select only one reward to advance from #1, and only apply this resolution (based on NPC's supporting the characters or not for chaos).

Adventure text as written suggests that having NPC's from one faction precludes mention of the other two as per "choosing a side".. In Nick's example, the DM could have presented Cult and Chaos as options to the player, but then not mentioning the Chaos voices at all if the players selected the Cult option.

Anthony, as above, looks to have intended #1, so it's likely Nick should pick up the Chaos reward for his character.

It's unavoidable in this (and...See more

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
