CCC-HAL-01 Fate of the Nightworms

ADD TO WISHLIST >

Strange geothermal activity brings adventurers to the tiny coastal village of Jarko’tu’ta. A dangerous cave descent leads them into the dark tunnels below the surface. Waiting for them there are encounters with creatures strange, beautiful and deadly!

A 4-Hour Adventurers League Convention Created adventure for 1st-4th Level Characters.

In addition the spectacular spelunking strangeness, this stand-alone adventure includes:

  • A Season8-style handout detailing the magic item unlock (prints 9 to a page)
  • Gridded reference maps for key combat encounters
  • Higher resolution versions of maps without legend

This adventure begins in the same village as CCC-CIC-09 Steamy Shores of Danger.  Though the two adventures have entirely unrelated stories and require no knowledge of the other, adventurers that played Steamy Shores can start this adventure immediately after and may run across a certain talking shark who may or may not have some tasty fish for them.

Check out CCC-CIC-09 Steamy Shores of Danger and my other adventures!

I'll probably be running this soon. It seems like it's possible that a party could get through the entire module without ever seeing the nightworms...right? Or is there something special I should do if they don't meet the requirements for spotting them?

Hi Matt,

The idea is that the map is actually larger than what is shown and that without NW guidance, they never find their way from the initial descent section to the nursery/waterfall area. If they don't meet the requirements, the NW is able to make noise (bang against a shield) or touch. If your players are having trouble picking up on requirements, they can be given hints via checks!

I had the pleasure of being a DM at Hal-Con 2018 where this module was first introduced. Well written and imaginative, it was extremely well received by the players who found the adventure quite compelling. With opportunities for combat, exploration and roleplay, there is something here for any would-be adventurers.

Thanks Gerard - it was great to meet you at Hal-Con and see the amazing work you and the other DMs there did to breathe life into these brand-new adventures!

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
