Lots of grammatical errors and inconsistencies (one character's name changes throughout the document). The story is relatively weak, but an okay sidequest for folks starting Dungeon of the Mad Mage.

Was a good game if rather dangerous for a group of level 5s with few magical items (only 1 of them was using a +1 weapon) so had to nerf some of the abilities at the end otherwise they would have been really struggling to do damage. Despite awful rolls of my end. (Rolling consistent 1-3 on the dice with the rare 20) some characters ended up in a dangerous spot. Worked well enough though and they did “enjoy” the fanfic! (Well they enjoyed shoving it into the dead authors body!

There was a great balance of roleplay, investigation, and combat in this module. Both I and my players really enjoyed it, and would definitely run it again.

Please include a print friendly version without the backgrounds (possibkly without images too). Some of us like printing modules and that's a ton of yellow ink!

Into the Dark DDAL08-07

<<spoilers below>>>

The module begins in the lair of the vampiric masked lord Artor Morlin. The Baron of Blood requires a new lair as adventurers keep invading his current one. Rumors reach him of a vampire nest within the Dungeon Level of the Undermountain who refer to themselves as the UNDERTAKERS. Artor Morlin tasks the characters with locating the lair and disposing of the occupants. He makes all players sign a contract before starting the mission.

Artor directs the characters to Durnan at the Yawning Portal to see if a back entrance to the Undertaker’s lair exists. Durnan agrees to help, seemingly in exchange for blue lichen (Bonus Objective) said to grow in the Stonebone Mine. Upon return, the players will be awarded an endless supply of the special Bluetooth Ale he brews.

The players can either head straight for the mine,...See more

This was a fun run through. The balance of RP - combat - traps/dungeon elements was a good balance. Some of the flow is a bit confusing, which I think is to be expected with the more free form module design in Season 8. Not nearly the kind of plot holes or need for creatively 'stitching' the episodes together that I've experienced in some of the T1 content.

There were some aspects of Bonus A that didn't make a lot of sense (what are the PCs supposed to gain from a Commune With Nature effect in this place? Would it be AL-legal to give them info on the Dungeon Level?), and the the encounter with Tev and the golem seemed to be rushed. That is, there wasn't a lot of detail and I had to make it up when my PCs started trying to persuade him to go back to Morlin.

Also, is there an AL-legal way to decide where the tunnel leads once completed?
Overall, though, I enjoyed running this and would do so again.

4/5 stars

I enjoyed DMing it. It was fun to add in some flavor... the party seemed to enjoy it overall. [I would put this under reviews... but DMsGuild is not allowing me to review it despite me having purchased the trilogy. I give it 4 stars.]

It's interesting that this trilogy is written to be played all together, but the APL jump is pretty significant from one to the next (DDAL08-07 is APL: 5, DDAL08-08 is APL: 8, and DDAL08-09 is APL: 10). A party running them all in sequence will not be matching these APLs, so if you plan on running them all together be prepared to do some tweaking for your party.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
