It Got Under His Skin - Waterdeep Faction Adventure

ADD TO WISHLIST >

A mission brief from Chapter 2 of Waterdeep: Dragon Heist turned into a 4-6 hour adventure!

The first Emerald Enclave mission on page 35 of Waterdeep: Dragon Heist sends the adventurers to camp in a field with a ten percent chance of encountering a scarecrow. It Got Under His Skin transforms the mission into a haunting mystery to be solved. In addition to defeating the scarecrows, will the adventurers find how the constructs were created? Will they take down the shadowy cult spreading discord in Undercliff? What will be their fate when they face down the powerful demon hunting an ancient secret?

Investigation, five combat encounters, a haunting new magic item, and rules for encountering an angry mob!

12 pages of adventure (plus encounter sheets and handouts!) playtested for around 4-6 hours of play.

5 encounter sheets with stat blocks, encounter overviews, environment descriptions, difficultly and XP, and a place to track initiative and enemy hit points.

Every Waterdeep faction has reason to send the party on this adventure, and each has some sort of aid to offer. Faction hooks are provided for the Emerald Enclave, Bregan D’aerthe, Force Grey (Gray Hands), Harpers, Lord’s Alliance, Order of the Gauntlet, and the Zhentarim.

The adventure is also suitable for a rural setting in any campaign.

Read before you buy - the entire PDF is included in “Full-size Preview” above.

This adventure is updated with new layout and artwork along with 5 more best-selling adventures set in Waterdeep in the collection Waterdeep: Faction Adventures (Volume 1)! If you already own this or any of the other adventures included, check out the bundle version for a discount!

With Encounter A - If there is a monstrous race and I reading intent correctly combat is initiated without any chance dialogue between the party, Lifften and the mob?

Hi Brad,
You read my original intent correctly. Liften is about to lynch a person simply for being of a “monstrous” race. However, there’s no reason you shouldn’t give your party a chance to sway the mob. I’d suggest you take into consideration how the mob would react to say, a half-orc, stumbling into the proceeding. For some, it might incense, but others who were reluctantly going along with the mob might find new resolve in their own conscience.

The only correct way to run this (or any, in my view) adventure is the way it unfolds at your table. It’s not a story to be played out, but rather a framework for helping your players tell a story with you. Their ideas are probably better than mine, and I hope they’re victorious!

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
