From now through November 30th, this digital title has been marked down for the Black Friday/Cyber Monday weekend! For more savings, visit our Black Friday/Cyber Monday page.

UPDATE: 2 years after its initial release, the Ravenloft battle maps have been "remastered"! Please see the Update Summary image at the bottom of this product description for a synopsis of the many improvements coming with this update.

Inside the product you'll find:

  • Full Resolution PNG files of every individual room and each complete floor of Ravenloft (with and w/o grid)
  • Those same files as 'unfurnished' variants so you can create your own castle from scratch!
  • VTT-compressed JPEG versions of every complete floor at drastically smaller file size (20MB PNG files > 1MB JPEG files)
  • 287 assets made from Ravenloft's interior for you to optionally use in your own mapmaking, including a token for Strahd himself.
  • 'DM Maps' of entire floors with labels corresponding to the module and notes included to assist in understanding Ravenloft's layout (low res example)
  • 3 Print-ready PDF files separated into letter-sized compatible rooms and larger rooms. All of these files make it instantly easy and possible to print Ravenloft's entire interior on a standard home printer.
  • A User's Guide for additional context, suggestions on use, etc.

I made these rooms from scratch myself and used them with my own players while playing through Curse of Strahd. We found that getting to reveal rooms as they explored through the Castle was a huge boon to the discovery process and my hope is that you will enjoy using them as much as we did. If you find that this product improved your gaming experience please feel free to check out more of my maps on our website, venatusmaps.com.

Please feel free to comment here or email at: info@venatusmaps.com with any questions, feedback, or concerns.

I've just printed out all the printable maps. I suggest that it would be nice to include the room number on the reverse side (not the name). As I will be cutting these out and using them as tiles having the description on the tile does, in some instance, give away the room. Just a thought

Love the maps, just have to point out that all of the parapets(at least the ones I printed from the print files) seem to be smaller than the rest of the map so they don't line up when I'm trying to put them together.

I just bought this for a Halloween One-Shot Playthrough and Importing into Roll20 was a breeze, although I wish you had included information about grid size per image, like how many "squares" and how many pixels per square in each image.

On another note, I would also have wanted the "DM Maps" images to have a VTT-version where they are scaled identically to the VTT full maps but just the text overlay.
Roll20 for example has three layers, map & background, objects & tokens and GM Info, if I had an image with just the text overlay (and preferably a PNG with transparency) I could just import that straight into Roll20 and it would only be visible for me, without having to create all the text myself.

The printable files have several rooms missing that are present in the individual rooms folder. Is there going to be a printable file for these rooms anytime? eg. K20_3, K20_4, K73 through K78, K85, K86 and K87 and more.

Thank you for bringing this to my attention! This error apparently slipped through the cracks in the big overhaul update; I have reuploaded the correct Print PDFs in a new .Zip which now display their full length and every individual room as they're described in the Read Me Guide.

How many pages are these maps?

Hey Otis! The first PDF (all rooms that fit on a single page) is 34 pages long. The second PDF (rooms that extend over multiple US letter sized pages) is 29 pages long.

So just checking. Are the print ready pdfs sized to 1 inch grids?
Customer avatar
Venatus M September 07, 2020 4:00 pm UTC
CREATOR
Hey Justin! That's correct, they're already pre-sized for printing from home a 1 square = 1 inch ratio

Looks like the complete map for the ground level is incorrect for area K64. This is supposed to be a staircase going both up and down. It's only drawn to go one direction.
Also the grid for Areas for K23/24 are off center on the complete map. The need to be moved to the left by 2 1/2 grid spaces. The wall of K23 should touch the wall of the stairs in K20. Lastly, the main floor complete map is missing area K19

On the complete map for Spires pt2, area K48 is also drawn to go one way but this should go both up and down. Also on the Larders of Ill Omen complete map, area K83a is missing.

On a different note, would it be possible to add the walls and towers immediately touching the main castle on the Rooms of weeping complete floor map? I've had tons of players want to explore that but no map to use. Also, could you include a image of the heart of sorrow staircase with the stairs fully wrapping around? The tower is tall enough that the stairs should spiral two full turns before you...See more

Hi Geoffrey! This is all really good feedback that touches on the more tiny details that are easy for me to miss by myself and I genuinely appreciate you bringing them to my attention. I'm actually in the midst of redoing much of the castle right now and have literally put all of your feedback into my notes to make sure those areas are addressed as I put entire floors back together again. I am also planning on including new sections for the surrounding walls and castle grounds. Hadn't thought of the north tower extension between k20 and k60, but that's also a good idea. Only one I can address myself is that the omission of K83a is intentional as is addressed in the Read Me. Seriously, thanks again!

Hey just wanted to ask when you might have some of the fixes addressed in this post and other from the last few months updated? I'm going to be running cos soon and maps sound more than worth the 10 bucks but id obviously like them to be as accurate as possible.

Thanks

Hey Josh! Updating this rather massive project is one of the main things on my plate right now and I'm actually collaborating with a few other creators at the moment to see what other new content we can provide for Castle Ravenloft. All said, I plan for it all to be fully available here at the beginning of October. That said if your group starts soon and you think they're going to get to the castle early email me (info@venatusmaps.com) and I'll see what I can do in regards to sending you any early versions of the new map(s).

I bought this map pack for the complete gridded maps to use on Roll20. The maps looked to have very nice detail, and they do. Unfortunately the grids between different rooms are not lined up. It's as if the individual gridded rooms were just copy/pasted into one image without regards to how they work as a whole. It also appears that walls are not accounted for in regards to the grids. Placing 70+ individual ungridded maps sounds horribly time consuming. I feel my money was a bit wasted now.

Hello! Nice artwork! Considering the issues with the walls and stuff it'd be nice if you could size down the grid-on version since VTT platforms usually have an Align-to-grid function. Thank you so much for the time you've put into these maps. ^^'

Can you please add a complete floors without grid lines? The grid is not universal, so it gets out of sync quickly on virtual tabletops.

Replying here since it's not possible to do in the reviews. Gridless would certainly be better if things don't line up but you'd still have to move tokens into the walls. I suppose you've just copied the single parts together and aligned them in an image manipulation program.

The proper fix would be to create the grid as a separate layer and align the individual rooms in a way that they line up properly. Then the grid and gridless combined images would work properly.

I haven't paid for the maps because of the free give away but if I did, I'd at least expect the stuff to line up properly in a VTT since I can just use a battle mat offline.

Yea, this quarantine period has been annoying. So looking forward to just having stuff printed out and not have to deal with this kinda stuff.

And yea, this is the thing I am bumping into on so many maps.

When I ran CoS a couple years ago, I spent the better part of 3 days drawing out the Castle Ravenloft maps on 1" grid flip-chart paper. It was a nightmare - though still kinda fun. If only I had this back then.

Keep up the amazing work!

Took a break from WotC products and just recently came back to some more Phandalin maps that I'll be putting up here shortly. Not a lot of maps yet for the more recent modules as WotC has not been especially receptive to recreating the b&w maps that are found in those modules.

Maybe it is just me, but it seems like K22 North and South are the wrong shape, shouldn't they not have the 2 by 2 bump out at the end and just be squares?

Thanks for pointing this out! They're in the correct shape for the main floor, but not the 2nd floor as you've noted. I'll be sure to fix that in the next update.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.
Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
