UPDATE: 2 years after its initial release, the Ravenloft battle maps have been "remastered"! Please see the Update Summary image at the bottom of this product description for a synopsis of the many improvements coming with this update.

Inside the product you'll find:

  • Full Resolution PNG files of every individual room and each complete floor of Ravenloft (with and w/o grid)
  • Those same files as 'unfurnished' variants so you can create your own castle from scratch!
  • VTT-compressed JPEG versions of every complete floor at drastically smaller file size (20MB PNG files > 1MB JPEG files)
  • 287 assets made from Ravenloft's interior for you to optionally use in your own mapmaking, including a token for Strahd himself.
  • 'DM Maps' of entire floors with labels corresponding to the module and notes included to assist in understanding Ravenloft's layout (low res example)
  • 3 Print-ready PDF files separated into letter-sized compatible rooms and larger rooms. All of these files make it instantly easy and possible to print Ravenloft's entire interior on a standard home printer.
  • A User's Guide for additional context, suggestions on use, etc.

I made these rooms from scratch myself and used them with my own players while playing through Curse of Strahd. We found that getting to reveal rooms as they explored through the Castle was a huge boon to the discovery process and my hope is that you will enjoy using them as much as we did. If you find that this product improved your gaming experience please feel free to check out more of my maps on our website, venatusmaps.com.

Please feel free to comment here or email at: info@venatusmaps.com with any questions, feedback, or concerns.

I am nervous about having these printed at a shop. I printed some on my home printer and struggles a bit with the files and printing them the right size. Any helpful hints on how to handle things at a print shop? Thank you.

I know the original scale for the castle is one square is 10 feet. Is the scale for this map one square is 5 feet?

Buy them. This guy made a great job. Example. K10 room is the dining room. At the original map is 4x4 10ft. squares. At these maps is 8x8 5ft. squares. Also look his exampe map K42 king's bed chamber. Find the original and see what i mean. Sorry for my bad english. I hope this help you.

Hello
I'm trying to align both dm and players maps on a vtt but there's always an offset. What are the pixels per square measurements for the dm maps ?
Customer avatar
Venatus M January 18, 2022 5:52 pm UTC
CREATOR
Hey Maxime--the DM reference maps were not originally intended to overlay on top of the encounter-level maps when they were made and so they do not have the same aspect ratio (hence the offset you're experiencing). The DM maps are significantly scaled down as I had only thought of them as a quick reference tool for DMs--the use case of actually overlaying them in VTT didn't emerge until after our latest overhaul update. Plans are in the works to provide a 1:1 transparent overlay of those notes for the next future update.

Hello, I'm going through this, and I'm not seeing K87? I'm still going through and cutting up the pieces, so I don't know about any others. But that is one I noticed. I went through the 3 print pdf documents and didn't see that room.

Hi Ben, K87 (the guardians) is attached visually to area K88 (the tomb of the parents) since K87 is relatively small and more or less adjoined with K88.

are these usable in roll20?

CREATOR
Sure! They arrive as JPEG, PNG, and PDF files that are perfectly usable and can be uploaded into Roll20's interface

Hello! I am preparing to run a Curse of Strahd Campaign, and your product looks like something that will help immensely when we get to the castle.
I am curious though, if I were to print the furnished pages of the map in my home printer, how many pages does that end up being?

Thank you!

Venatus M November 09, 2021 3:40 am UTC
CREATOR
Hey Nicole! The PDF pages are split into three separate files: one for rooms that can be entirely contained within an 8.5x11 US letter sized piece of paper, and two more PDFs for rooms that are too large and "cut up" between multiple sheets so that they can be cut out and assembled with a tape backing. If you were to print all three PDFs it would come out to about a little over 90 pages. If you print just the first PDF it's 41 pages and others (including myself) have used local printers to print out the larger rooms separately. Hope that helps!

Hey man, love the product! I printed it all on photo paper (let's not ask how much that cost O.o)
BUT I have questions about area 46.

It seems to struggle to pit along side the insides of the Rooms of Wheeping. The 46.1-8 doesn't seem to be in any order either.
Also the far right of area 20 there is a hallway (also 46) but I don't seem to see it in my stuff. Did I miss a page?

Regardless, love the work you put into this and love the product!

Hi Lukas!! Glad you have enjoyed the set! I'm sure they must look incredible printed onto photo paper like that.

As far as it not fitting alongside the rooms I'm not quite sure why that would be. If you look at the DM map or Full floor file(s) for the Rooms of Weeping you can see how its intended to wrap around those floors if that helps at all. Perhaps for physical play it would be easier to have area 46 beneath the other rooms so that they're individual cards can overlap when working with imperfections of physical pieces, bumping the table, etc. Totally agree that the enormity of area 46 (as well as the catacombs) and they're resulting separated pieces can be confusing when printing + combining. I've added a to-do item to make an 'assembly guide' image for both of those for the future--thank you for bringing that to my attention!

The hallway leading to the other parapets east of K20_2 is not included as it is that hallway that leads to the much larger OUTER walls that border the exterior...See more

91 pages. Doing it at staples in Canada on 65lb cardstock is like 45$, 65$ for the 100lb

I also have noticed that for the DM maps on room K23, the stairs that lead down to K62 isn't marked as such. The label does exist the other way around though.

You are correct! Thanks for noticing this; I've put it down in my 'errata' for things to change/add/update on this the next time I'm able to come around to this project. And to answer your other comment, no room exists currently for the small area beneath crypt 14 (also added as a to-do item in the errata)

I know I'm a big dumb but how do I convert the larger maps (Crypt & Dungeon, etc) into the multi page printable format?

Hey Anders! Those should already be available for printing (without any conversion necessary) in the "Castle Ravenloft Print 3.pdf" file

Has anyone else had problems with printing? I used 8.5x11 cardstock and it came out with the squares at 15/16ths of an inch.

I had this same issue. I just set the print scale to 107% and then the grid squares came out 1".

I did notice that the size of the squares make a tight fit for minis. I can work with that, but my main beef is that the scale for Castle Ravenloft Print 3 is much smaller than 1 and 2. I found this out after printing everything, so I'm trying to figure out how to correct Print 3 and get it reprinted before my game this week.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.
Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
