Volo’s Waterdeep Enchiridion (5e)

ADD TO WISHLIST >

Welcome, Traveler! You have in your hands the foremost and most up-to-date guide to the city—smiled over by none other than its Open Lord, Lady Laeral Silverhand.

This chapbook will serve you well until my seminal work on the subject, Volo’s Guide to Waterdeep—sadly longout of print, but now a tome prized by collectors—can be updated and printed anew. Ask any broadsheet seller, innkeeper, shopkeeper, tavern owner, or bookseller if they’ll soon have copies of the new edition for sale!

This excerpt is the chapter from the Waterdeep Dragon Heist hardcover with all the information about the City of Waterdeep.

All monies that Wizards of the Coast would receive from sales of this PDF are being donated to Extra Life.

About Extra Life:

Krenko's Way

We (Wizards) recognize that some of the legacy content available on this website does not reflect the values of the Dungeons & Dragons franchise today. Some older content may reflect ethnic, racial, and gender prejudice that were commonplace in American society at that time. These depictions were wrong then and are wrong today. This content is presented as it was originally created, because to do otherwise would be the same as claiming these prejudices never existed. Dungeons & Dragons teaches that diversity is a strength, and we strive to make our D&D products as welcoming and inclusive as possible. This part of our work will never end.

The "Major Temples of Waterdeep" table on page 14 miscategorized the Tower of Luck as residing within the Castle Ward when in actuality it is well within the bounds of the Sea Ward and is mentioned in the books blurb about the Sea Ward. Other than that minor clerical error, this is a fantastic source book for waterdeep.

I wish there was a booklet like this for every major city. This is perfect for preparing me to take my party to Waterdeep

When I download my product as a pdf, it will not print. Any suggestions?

I wish to print this out and was wondering if there was a printer friendly pdf without the gray scaling or beige backgrounds? It doesn't mention it in the description and I would like to know before purchasing it.

There's not.
I would love a print on demand option. They did it for the Elemental Evil Player's Companion, so I don't see why they don't do the same for this.
Without that option, a printer friendly version of the PDF would be greatly appreciated (and should be a thing either way already).
D&D Beyond has made their pages very printer friendly; so if you get Waterdeep: Dragon Heist on there, it can be printed in a printer friendly version.

My issue with that option is that the layout was changed to optimize it for a scrolling webpage instead of distinct pages (i.e. everything is in a single column instead of two per page/four per spread).
(If you print from the Edge browser, "clutter free printing" will make sure that things such as images and tables don't get split onto different pages. It also changes box text into unboxed text in a different color. I think that is the best option currently...See more

I wish this was available through D&D Beyond. Would be nice if all of my players could access it.

If you have set up the campaign to allow your players to see your books then just add the Dungeon Heist this is in there

And then they'll be able to see the entire adventure. It would be nice to share limited aspects of it.

Does this include a printer friendly version without images and background?

Does this mean tehre will be a Volos Guide for 5E?

What about a 5E City of Splendours setting book or boxed set?

It's unlikely that there will be another book centred on Waterdeep for 5E, given the depth of the information already available, especially with Waterdeep: Dragon Heist focusing on the upper city, and Waterdeep: Dungeon of the Mad Mage (coming in November) focusing on Undermountain & Skullport. As for a box set? It's extremely unlikely that there will be another box set for 5E; they are extremely expensive to produce, which is why the only ones offered these days are for introductory sets designed as loss leaders to bring new people into the game or edition, or crowdfunded luxury items (starting at $75 but more often over $100; you could go crazy with the Platinum Edition of Dragon Heist if you wanted, only $500 with a whole bunch of custom-designed props, maps, adventure add-ons, and a whack of miniatures). Also game stores are reluctant to carry box sets because they don't fit the scale of the hardcovers on the shelves. The glory days of box sets are well behind us, the prodigious 2nd edition run of them...See more

Agreed. While the material is good, presenting it conveniently for players is important to make the most of it

I know it's for charity, but I really would have liked a copy of this that was removable from the book as a handout. It's hard to give the players my physical book.

I think that is why they are offering this, so you don't have to share your hardcover.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
