CCC - BWM - 003 A Tale of Two Towers

UPDATE! NOW INCLUDING ITALIAN TRANSLATION by Pinna Paolo

The annual celebration of the abolishment of the Great Law of Humanity is happening in Hillsfar. As the leader of the factions in the region, Elanil Elassidil must attend the event, however, she has a guest with her. Elanil is looking after a young girl, who the adventurers may have met before, and has summoned adventurers to Elventree to watch over the girl while she is tending to the celebration. A simple babysitting task shouldn’t be too difficult for mighty adventurers, right?

A 4-Hour Adventure for 11-16 Level Characters

**I should point out this module is filled with many puzzles and very little fights.  In fact, a direct approach through fighting will likely lead to a very miserable game and failure in the mission.  The module requires significant amount of roleplaying and exploration, could have 0 fights, and even combat themselves are puzzles.  If your players like puzzles this could be the module for them.  If your players are mainly interested in fighting and tend to do badly with puzzles, this is likely not the module for them**

This module is a standalone module published at Bookwyrm 2018 along with two other standalone modules:

CCC-BWM-001 Howling on the Moonsea: https://www.dmsguild.com/product/253539/CCCBWM001-Howling-on-the-Moonsea

I just played this module. It's now the worst module I've ever played. This adventure makes sure none of your characters matter. Roleplay and puzzles are fine, but removing all player agency from the adventure even our DM was frustrated. Other reviewers have already mentioned the "Baby Sitting BS." Having to go through multiple quest givers before you actually get to the point of the module is highly annoying. Ignoring basic 5e Mechanics just to force people to play a certain way removes all fun. This should have just been a Tier 1 module and all the BS that makes the module not enjoyable wouldn't have been needed. In the Boss Fight only the NPCs that were helping us could do anything of meaning. The players were just support characters for the NPCs.

Ran this game at Genghis Con 42 this weekend, and thought I'd chime in. Reading through it the first time, I had concerns similar to those expressed by others. Railroading? Maybe. Little to no combat that advances the story? Probably. Annoying lead NPC? Certainly (at least from my perspective).

That said, I gave it a second read and a whirl with three players yesterday, and they all ended up enjoying it with a few editorial decisions made here and there by yours truly. Lack of combat? No problem they said, even for the Barbarian. Annoying NPC, yeah, but they ditched her for a while on some other babysitters and got on with the adventure, then went back to get her. Railroading? Yes, to a large degree, but then that prompted a creative story-breaking ending that I simply couldn't argue with. In the end, the game's the thing, and my players and I were able to have FUN with it.

Played in the same game as Troy (with a regular DM that we all like) and no one at the table was enjoying it. I almost left as well. I would not recommend anyone DM or play in this module. I'm sorry. It seems like there is a lot of work in it, but NO.

Let's start with the description of the module:
"The annual celebration of the abolishment of the Great Law of Humanity is happening in Hillsfar. As the leader of the factions in the region, Elanil Elassidil must attend the event, however, she has a guest with her. Elanil is looking after a young girl, who the adventurers may have met before, and has summoned adventurers to Elventree to watch over the girl while she is tending to the celebration. A simple babysitting task shouldn’t be too difficult for mighty adventurers, right?" -- NONE of this matters at all. It takes place at The Stop and then suddenly switches to somewhere else. Okay, the awful adventure intro "babysit this girl, cuz maybe you'll get a better assignment...See more

Firstly, you talk of things that are not even in the module so I would consult your DM regarding those issues. I have no ideas where small creatures using heavy crossbows or heavy weapons come from. I have no clue how the DM spent 2.5 hours when the intro and first tower are only supposed to take a max of 1 hour. Timing was one of my main concern when writing this module and it was tweak many times from a lot of playtesting. For the final product, this is the first time I've heard it took so long. It seems your DM may have misunderstood or overemphasize certain things.

The "baby" and the "faction contact for all faction" are both established AL NPC but it is possible your group never played earlier seasons and never meet these NPCs.

Secondly, the module is not designed to be fought. I think I made pretty clear from the disclaimer on the module that it is not a "beat it till it dies" module. Combat in itself was designed to be a puzzle and the "baby"...See more

Currently playing this module. Wow. This is the worst module I have ever played. It is a railroad that ignores 5e rules (npc rolled a nat 1 and still hit my character for 71 damage and no it isn’t combat, no initiative). Obnoxious NPCs with plot armor is utterly stupid. An NPC that is the faction contact for all factions? Also stupid. I have another session in 4hrs, so I’m sticking around but otherwise I would walk out. Worst. Module. Ever.

So I bought this and ran it but came across a problem in it, on page 27 on the box text it states [If she has the Blink Dog, it joins her in running off], but I'm not finding where the blink dog is meant to be. Also the wall of force in the module is it meant to disappear when they deal with the puzzle or stay there for them to find a way to destroy? because if it stays there any party without a wizard will have a hard time progressing.

That is there on error. The older version had an option to run into a Blink Dog while exploring the Grey Keep but the module was already too long and I took out the additional exploration option. I will update the document to reflect this, it will be push through with the next update.

Thanks!

I've double checked and reupload and confirm the cert files are up. Let me know if you're still downloading a copy of the module instead of the certificate. If that's the case, I'll contact technical support to see what they can do.

And send me your email or PM me your email, I'll just email you the cert so you don't need to wait for them to resolve it.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
