The Carceri Bestiary

ADD TO WISHLIST >

A guide to 20 creatures you might meet in the Prison-Plane of Carceri, all illustrated and ready to be added to your game. 3 are classic D&D creatures (the Gehreleths/Demodands) reimagined for 5th edition, while the rest are original creations. They range in Challenge Rating from the Furcipher, a CR1 familiar granted to some who serve Carceri, up to the mighty CR18 Shator, who can summon lesser Gehreleths in the midst of battle- although this being intended for planar encounters, most of the creatures herein are for 2nd tier parties to face.

In addition to the Insidious Gehreleths, you'll meet their servitors the Abhoroths and the Elevatus as well as creatures known as Primacae, entities who do the Gehreleths' bidding in the material realms.

A brief overview of the Prison-plane is included, as well 5 varieties of NPC one might encounter in the course of confronting the schemes of the Gehreleths.

Looks pretty good overall, I like the breakdown on how all the different kinds interact with each other. However, while a few typos aren't a big deal, it's weird that 2 of the biggest monsters in there would have glaring mistakes in their statblocks. The Kelubar and Shator are supposed to be head honchos, and are listed with strong attacks and high CR, but only have 7 hit points each. I'll still use them, adjusting that is pretty easy, but I'm surprised the mistake made it past editing.

You're right- sorry about that! I'll need to pull the files off my old laptop and get that fixed ASAP!

Sorry for the long delay, but I've posted a revised version that fixes their HP (and a couple of others I missed as well)!

A quick note- in 2nd edition D&D, Demodands were renamed to Gehreleths, so I went with that name. I probably should have worked that into the text somewhere.

Could be that the same way obyrith, loumaras and tenar`ri are all demons, you could say that the abhorroths, elevatus and gehreleths are all demodands

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
