Waterdeep: Final Resting Place

ADD TO WISHLIST >

A short adventure for 5th level characters.
Ehkard Karnos, a well-known gnome gemcutter and stingy character has gone missing. His house is said to be haunted. It's up to you and yours to investigate the house, rid it of its ghosts, and find out what really happened to the owner of the house at the end of Gem Street.
This short adventure can be used in conjunction with the Waterdeep: Dragon Heist module as a simple jaunt south in the Castle Ward to Gem Street.

Updates: Directions in descriptions updated to better match the map shown. Added compass rose to map pages. Added notation for area 1a.

A nice little addition to Waterdeep as a possible side quest. Only thing I could really use is a map copy included without any markings for easy translation to Roll20 or another format.

You can build the map within using the Dungeon Tiles available from Wizards of the Coast on Roll20 and I believe D&D Beyond. :)

I have just read over it, it seems to need a serious edit, not just the odd typo and so on, I can live with that, but some of the room descriptions do not seem to fit with the map, at times I am not sure the vision the author had for various elements have been well communicated and that sort of thing. I picked it up as something easy to run while PCs are in Waterdeep, I think it just needs more work. Not sure if I am going to use it.

Here are two examples of what I mean from the first two rooms.

A) In room 1 there is reference to "a small hall alongside the stairs leads to a door to the west" okay, so first there is no indication of North on the map, so it is a little difficult determining which way is west, then there is nothing on the map of room 1 that looks like a hall. Also, this part of the description comes just after mention was made of two doors immediately opposite the entry way, which clearly are not the door in question - there are two doors clearly marked there. So, where is this other door? Well, while there is an opening on the right side of the map it does not have a door marked there, it is just an opening (and the right side, on usual orientation, would be east, not west - so do we assume reverse orientation, with north at the bottom of the map? I suppose so). That is confusing.

b) Then we have "1A. Hallway". But there is no room or other structure on the maps marked 1A - nothing....See more

Thanks for addressing the issues. I genuinely prefer to make the product the best possible product I can put out, but I also work 50+ hours a week at an office job and am trying to hone my skills with map creation to match my notes using the DM tiles. Also, I try not to sit on the things I write because if I tried to make them perfect every time, I'd never release anything. Naturally, my hand in writing these isn't perfect, so I appreciate the feedback. And I can do nothing but apologize and try to correct the issues.

I fortunately have this weekend off, so I'll go through the module and address these specific concerns you've raised and try and correct and then update the product.

To address your questions more directly here:
A) The map was originally planned to be upside down from the way it is now. It was rotated after writing to fit Waterdeep at a place I figured it could go, which required the entrance to be on the northside of the house. I'll work on correcting the directions so it matches. I had thought I did, but obviously there were missed cardinal directions that are wrong. I can only apologize and I absolutely apologize for the confusion. Updates on those incoming.

B) 1A is the 5x15 path between 1 and 3 on the left side of the map, which will be updated as the west side of the map. It serves as a coat room for guests, basically. It isn't marked. I think my reason for not marking it was really dumb in that it's such a small room the notation of it would block it out and I thought that'd be more confusing. Obviously I was absolutely wrong.

The entrance to the cellar is marked in the kitchen. It's the "T" square in a direction upwards from...See more

Thanks for being patient with me. I added a notation for area 1a to the map and a compass rose, I also changed the language to better match the map. If you do play through it and have any further notes, I'd be happy to receive them. Also, if you'd like a credit in there for helping out, I can add your name to the product. :)

I've been thinking of further addendum to add to it. If you watch Dice, Camera, Action!, they just introduced a mental health specialist/exorcist who might be someone heroes here go to for assistance if they spare Karnos.

All good, my PCs will be back in Waterdeep in the next couple of sessions - I will dangle the bait and see if they take it. Oh, I am just happy that you found the feedback useful, happy to provide a bit more once I have played it through, but don't worry about crediting me, just happy to help.

I don't believe so. I'm kind of new-ish to publishing stuff on DM's Guild. Do you know how I could make it so?

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
