Escape from Wheloon

ADD TO WISHLIST >

The walled city of Wheloon holds the criminal population of Cormyr. The residents
of that place are bound to it forever and cut off from the outside world. Inside, plans
are made and malcontents pool their resources – and outside, forces influence the
innocent to ensure that a dire plot can be realized without interference from the
knights and mages that guard the realm. Now you’re here with no memory of what
brought you to Wheloon, and all you can think of is finding out why!

Escape from Wheloon is a 3-4 hour Dungeons & Dragons module for character levels 1-4. It can be easily played by people new to Dungeons & Dragons and includes 4 pregenerated level 1 characters specifically designed for use in this adventure. It expands upon the material presented in Mordenkainen's Tome of Foes™, and can be played on its own or as a part of any D&D campaign.

This product is a DMs Guild Adepts adventure! The Dungeon Masters Guild Adept program brings highly talented individuals together for creative development. Guild Adept products are identified with the golden ampersand and logo.

Included in this purchase:

  • 1 roleplaying-centric adventure
  • 1 packet of pregen characters (each with level 1 and level 2 versions)
  • 1 additional handout for the main villain (sadly, it just wouldn't fit in the adventure document)

When this product earns Silver Metal status, I will contract someone to create a Fantasy Grounds version.

The download for the main pdf doesn't work for me. The file size is 0kb and it obviously fails to open as a result.

Cool idea. A lot of inconsistencies. It's probably best just to ignore the whole backstory part and invent your own reason for the players being in Wheloon and invent new significance for the NPC encounters if you still want to use them.

Why is the Fighter1 all of a sudden a Bard2 when they calm down the doggo? And the Cleric1 is all of a sudden a Bard2 when they find the harmonica in their pocket?

Were they *always* level 2 characters of that class, but forgot the knowledge they needed to have those skills? But like, why wouldn't the adventure tell the DM that at the onset? And why are the level 2 pregen character sheets still Fighter and Cleric? Maybe Bard is a typo, but then why are they playing as a band in a tavern and why the harmonica and backstory of being in a band with that NPC if they're fighters and clerics?

The writing also has an NPC with a key encounter described as a dwarf in the encounter description and later as a halfling in the spotlight box below....See more

I get the impression the adventure was changed slightly to tweak the characters to follow the basic classes (Fighter, Cleric, Rogue, Wizard). Reading between the lines it seems like the Wizard was intended to be a Warlock initially. If you overlook the inconsistencies, it seems like a fun one off to run, I'm hoping I get the opportunity to run for my group.

There's something I don't understand: Bhailee and Bharnum are L1 cleric and fighter, but in the character spotlights, they level up to L2 bards ? And the L2 pregens are still cleric and fighter ?
I'm still just reading the scenario, but it really disturbs me.

AL Legal wise, if the players choose to play with the pre-gen are they allow to transfert the adventure rewards to new level one characters?

Yup! You simply assign the rewards to one of your characters.

Planning to run this in the near future. Is there a way we can receive png/jpg files for the maps and the poster handout?

Hey there! Sorry for the delay; never got a notification of this note.

You should be able to copy/paste them into paint/ gimp/ whatever image software you use. Alternately, the map is available here from Elven Tower:

Does this adventure have an AL code? I'm assuming it uses hardcover ACP/TCP rewards for AL play, not core and bonus objectives?

It does! It uses DDHC-MORD-05 and follows the rules for hardcover awards, yes.

Is there a Fantasy Grounds version in the works for this title? I'm going to buy it anyway, but if a FG version is pending, I'll probably wait to actually play it until then. By the way, the cover art on this adventure is awesome.

If the adventure hits Gold Metal status I'll add a Fantasy Grounds version. It's not currently in the budget though.

Unfortunately I can't directly fix that, but I'll pass it on to a friendly face on the dmsguild staff

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
