Christmas in Barovia

ADD TO WISHLIST >

Newly updated for October 2020!

For the villagers of Barovia, the One Clear Day is an ill omen: the Twelve Nights have begun. The village of Barovia is in a stir, as villagers prepare themselves to face the Visitors, sinister bogeymen who will terrorize the town until only the obediant remain to receive Stradh's gift. Can you survive the Twelve Days of Christmas... in Barovia?

This module is designed as challenge play for characters levels 4 or 5. Players are unlikely to survive the onslaught of Yuletide nightmares. Dungeon Masters should run this as a Christmas one-off or it can be integrated into your current campaign as a Christmas special.

Check out my other titles!

The Sepulcher of the Ravens: A dungeon in the old redoubt of the wereravens for 4th-5th level.

The Royal Chultan Postal Society: Rules to run your post office adventure in 5e.

Looking to import this module into Foundry. Any chance I can get the statblocks as text? Easy import into Foundry via text. Thanks.

Unfortunately I lost the original files for the adventure a few years back. I'll try and dig them up from somewhere tonight and let you know.

Hey Drkranger 7, I'm still unable to locate my originals with the statblock save files. I'll keep looking but I'm afraid they might be gone.

Dude.. honestly.. you've made so many mistakes in Barovian lore and common trade skills.. it's frankly astounding. My helpful criticism I was writing you was like five times longer then they allow here.. and I was only halfway down page three of your preview. I know, I know, you're only asking for one dollar.. but geez. You'd have to basically do a whole rewrite of this to make it sensible. ..and that was just reviewing your first four pages.

Your writing skills are worthy.. but your content is sadly, bottom drawer. Try to bring it up to at least the sock drawer. ;)

How many hours does this adventure typically take? I want to add this as a side quest in my CoS campaign. My group typically meets for 2 hour sessions. Trying to figure out when to start so we’re wrapping up around Christmas!

Hey Halli! The times that I have run it, it took two or three 3 hour sessions. I generally gave my players a lot of leeway for cool ideas and roleplay with the townsfolk (dealing with their actions during the night, etc.); if you made it more like a series of combat encounters I would guess you could finish in 4 hours.

Just wanted to say, great work on this! My group had a blast with it thanks for making it available. No sure if you'll dig this or not but I made a folk rhyme to go along with the twelve nights that I used to deliver some of the clues. Worked great for me hope that you or someone else can get some more mileage out of it:

The first snow of the season calls foul as it falls
The watchers are coming, start decking the halls
They know who’s a sleeping and who’s still awake
The awake ones they spare but the sleepers they take.

Then come the white ladies all fine in their gowns
They give coins to the good and the bad only frowns.
The good needn’t fear they’re safe in their beds
The bad aren’t so lucky the queen comes for their heads.

The scarecrows come next to check on the grain
To be sure their crow scaring was not done in vain
Don’t spoil it don’t lose it don’t waste it or hide
Else they’ll take your whole...See more

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
