Printable Death House Maps

ADD TO WISHLIST >

Here are are the maps for Death House from Curse of Strahd, edited to be scaled to a 1.25" grid, and printable on normal 8.5x11 paper. The 1.25" grid is, I have found, a better scale with modern miniatures and tends to make the map feel more believable and less crowded.

Print and mount to foamcore or similar backing material for that extra cool factor! ;)

The original maps can be downloaded for free from Mike Schley's website. They are being presented here with his permission.

Originals can be found here: https://prints.mikeschley.com/p678546160/h61fadc4d#h61fadc4d

Is it just me, or is there just a small panel in the center of the map missing for the dungeon? It’s roughly 3x5 squares.

I will be running this on Friday.. I was just wondering what kind of paper do you think would be best to print these on for use? I am thinking poster paper or something like that. thanks and awesome. As a new DM I was wondering how I was going to draw all this out..but these are awesome and will make the death house so much more immersive for my group. As we are all very visual people. Thank you!

Sorry, I don't come by here all that often anymore. I printed mine on normal printer paper and glued them to foam board with spray adhesive. I also cut them out so that it was like "putting a puzzle together" when they explored the house. It felt really cool when we ran the adventure. Hope yours went well, too!

When printing, should these be printed as they are or should we do anything like fit to paper, or something like that?

If you just print them at "100%" / "actual size", they will come out the right size. The grid is 1.25", not 1", though. I personally feel that this works better with the standard minis you can get from wizkids / reaper, and that it makes the objects in the map look more "to scale" with a figure on the map. It also gives you a bit of elbow room when things start occupying all of the squares in a room.

How did you scale and split these maps? There are times I'd like to do this.

I scaled them in photoshop by measuring the size of the grid using tools in there and then scaling them accordingly with tools in photoshop. I then "printed" them to PDF using a piece of software (free) called PosteRazor (https://posterazor.sourceforge.io/). It allows you to print an image across multiple sheets of paper.

These are awesome! Do you plan on making any other printable maps for COS?

Mike Schley made the map, and provided it free on his website. I only scaled it up with his permission. Since I'm only an amateur cartographer, I'm afraid that I probably won't be making more. Death House also lends itself really well to this kind of exploration, unlike many other parts of CoS (it's small and each room is very distinct).

Hello,

Seems like only one floor of the actual house is available for download, are there plans to make the other 3 floors available?

All floors are in the first file (they're only two pages each, as the house isn't that big).

Echoing what others have said - "Death House Sub-dungeon 1.25in Scale.pdf" only has the section of the dungeon with water (rooms 35-38). It does not have the upper section of the dungeon (rooms 22-34).

"Death House 1.25in Scale.pdf" is complete (rooms 1-21).

Adding my voice to the choir here. This is lovely work and I really want to use this for my group, but it's missing the first half of the dungeon.

Mike Schley (the map maker) has them as pdfs for free on his website. Unfortunately, you would have to do printable scaling yourself.

Did anyone have a quick fix solution for this? Maybe something they found online that I could use to patch this together? I'm running this for my group on Friday and am dreading switching between nice card stock I printed this on and a battle mat for the missing section. I haven't been able to find anything.

As with others. Purchased this and the labyrinth section BEFORE the shambling mound / pool section is missing. I found this out after I went to Office Max and printed them out for my groups adventure this week. Kinda lost at what to do next. Drawing out the section after having such nice card stock I printed the others on seems a little deflating.

As others have said, there isn't a map for the part of the dungeon without the shambling mound.

Excuse me, let me clarify. THe map of the House itself is there. What is missing is part of the sub-dungeon (that doesn't have the pool). Sorry for the confusion.

There are two separate files. One of them for the sub-dungeon, one for the main house. The filenames are:

Death House 1.25in Scale
Death House Sub-dungeon 1.25in Scale

Can you confirm that you've downloaded both files?

Confirmed, it only has the section of the sub-dungeon with the pool and shambling mound. The area above that is missing.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
