Hey my friend! I was wondering what happened to the printer-friendly version?

Hello Jesse! I removed the printer-friendly specific template and instead added how to export your file in a printer-friendly manner in the beginner's guide (How to Export as PDF, page 11).

I've been looking through this and the video walkthroughs, but I can't tell if there's a boxed text option. I see the sidebar option, but I'm wondering if there's both.

Hello Brendan, boxed text is an option the template offers. It is setup as a paragraph style. I updated the quick and full-size previews to show the various paragraph styles available in the template.

Such an amazing and useful product! Honestly, it is an amazing work! Congratulations! Could you also write a beginner's guide? It would be really useful to newbies like me!

Thank you Alexandros! The beginner's guide is in the works, I don't have an estimate of when it will be added, but I am on it.

I look forward to it. I have one quick question, if you don't mind. Is there any way that I could add extra backgrounds, other than the 5 you have already? I have bought some really nice page backgrounds that fit thematically to a adventure I am writing and I don't know how to add them to your InDesign template. I would really appreciate it if you could assist with that.

I don't mind at all. To add a new background you need to edit the Master Page. Double click on the Master Page, unlock the Background layer, then Place (Ctrl+D) the background you wish to import on both pages of the spread. Once that's done you can go back to you document and enjoy your new background.

I don't know if I can share a external link here so I won't, but I just added a small video showing the process on my youtube, you can find it in the playlist at the end of the video above.

[5 star] Pub account, unable to post review. Definite recommend for all creators, beginners and old alike. The font/paragraph styles alone are worth the money - easily make your investment back with this purchase.

okay i was just setting down to use this finally and im uhhh... really confused.

What is the difference betwen each of the folders? i assume PF is printer friendly, i have no idea why each of the 4 folders has "letter" on it but as they are all marked that way i doubt that matters. However is the unmarked or the V15 the one i want to use? whats the difference between all 4 folders...?

Okay, i think i got it figured out, looks like v15 is the most recent. Just as a heads up when you try to enter a 20 (+5) into the statblock, that entire row vanishes (i assume its too big for the entry area), ive been trying finagle around with it to fix it but i have yet to be able too! Any support you can offer would be helpful :)

Hi,

PF is indeed Printer Friendly, "letter" is the format of the page as opposed to A4 for exemple, the class and race folder is for people not wanting to start from a blank canvas or want to check out how I approach them, the last folder might just be an old version I forgot to remove.

Thank you for the feed back on the statblocks, this can be fixed by removing the left and right indents for the line. I have an updated version of the files ready to be uploaded with the fix, but will wait to put it online until monday in case you notice more things to fix over the weekend. Do not feel bad for putting a lot of messages, I'm happy to fix issues I missed during testing.

thanks for the info, i'll see if i can fix the indent thing on my own haha, im sure it all makes sense once you get the hang of it, but there alot of weirdness in the prog to get used too! Thanks for the quick and efficient reply (this place is terrible for messages)

However despite getting this all figured out taking a bit of a learning curve i can already see how much easier this is all gonna be, ive been using photoshop for design, layout and text all the way xD

Alright, monday is here and the update is on the site!

I used to do it in photoshop too, it works, but it's really not made for it.

This is great! Thank you! I'm kind of new to InDesign, how do you access the additional backgrounds?
Customer avatar
Nathanaël R August 23, 2018 11:28 am UTC
CREATOR
Thank you! To access the additional backgrounds you go to the "Pages" window, at the top you will se "[None]" and "A-Master", double-click on the latter. Once in go to the "Layers" window look for the "Backgrounds" layer (the last one in the list) click the > to expand it and you will see a list of background options. You click in the empty square on the left of the layer window next to the background you want to make visible, if you do it correctly an eye will appear in the square and the background will be activated. Once you're happy with your choice of backgrounds, go back to the "Pages" window and double click on a page of your document.

If reading how to do it is not enough, I invite you to check out the video, I cover the subject in it.

Got it thanks! Now I'm just having a little trouble with the footers. I see that it's set up to display the chapter name as well as the page number. My page numbers are working fine, but it still just says Chapter|Subchapter # on the footer. How do I get that to work?
Customer avatar
Nathanaël R September 12, 2018 4:42 pm UTC
CREATOR
Hey, I'm sorry it took me so long to answer, this website is really not great at notifying new messages!

To change the footer it's also in A-Master, so once again you go to the "Pages" window, at the top you will se "[None]" and "A-Master", double-click on the latter. Once in go to the "Layers" window look for the "Chapter|Subchapter" Layers, unlock them by clicking the little lock on the left. Then with the "Type Tool" you can edit the footer text to make it say what you want.

I hope that answers your question.

Once again, I invite you to check out the video for a visual aid on the subject (if you don't want to watch all of it, start at 10:56).

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.
Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
