The PDF file for the new version 2.0 is super sluggish and renders very slowly. I have tried using different PDF reader applications, and I keep experiencing the same issue.

Hrm. That's not good, is it? I'll take a look later today, see if I can't make it behave. Thanks for letting me know!

Hi Oliver, I discovered if I use Foxit Reader, it seems to work fine, and this is a workaround for me. So, there only seems to be an issue with certain PDF reader applications. Also, I enjoy the revised story with its sharper focus. Take care.

Oh, neat! I've been trying to export a better file, but it keeps resisting me lol. Glad you found a workaround for now, though. :)

All in all, this has been a pretty fun adventure so far! I loved the Twisting mechanic in the Carnival, and gave my players some cool Twistings that they all love and gave their characters something distinct and unique.

My biggest complaint so far is how the Vampire encounter was handled. Having the Vampire remain in mist form the entire time basically made it a non-encounter, with the party just fighting it by the cleric casting Daylight on it and everyone standing outside while the mists couldn't touch them because sunlight. While I thought the story for the Vampire was interesting, it couldn't do most attacks since it was in mist form. They basically didn't have to do anything for the chapter, and got some corruption-free magic items from it. It would also be nice if we could get some dimensions for the rooms, as the random encounter crypts had dimensions (10x10 ft) but the main chapter rooms had no such dimensions listed.

EDIT: I ran this adventure again much later and having Mordenkainen's Tome of Foes for the stat block made the fight make much more sense.

I plan on running this soon, but I feel like it needs an introductory adventure to set the mood for players, kind of like what Death House did for Curse of Strahd. Do you have any suggestions as to how I might try to do this?

How long does it take to run through this?

I'm afraid to say (rather unhelpfully) that this can vary due to the structure of the module. It's likely to take significantly more than one sitting, though, depending on how much your players like to explore. A speed run could be done in an afternoon. A slower run could easily take 10+ hours.

So we're in the midst of Corona2020 and we moved our weekly game online. So things started off a little slower than normal. But my group spent 6 solid hours of gameplay and didnt even finish with the city. And that's like one of 15 locations. I planned on taking two 5 hour session to complete the adventure but now I'm planning on it taking 15+ hours. Granted, my group was extra inquisitive for this one so they were very thorough.

I am about to run this, but in a time loop sort of way. I need a dream sequence to take place when I only have half the party (I usually run with 8!) and I think this would be a Life is Strange sort of puzzle for my characters to figure out!

That's an exceedingly cool idea :D If there's anything I can do to help, let me know, but otherwise good luck! (and I hope they don't get murdered by gulls.)

Well, they scored a point of corruption for the lighthouse...situation... Hahaha. Next stop, the gardens! I think Ill twist the medusa into being the cursed love of the giant.... Id also encourage DMs running the game to try to incorporate the witch into a player backstory. You leave it open enough that the Witch could be someone thought lost to the player... making it a bit of a tragedy or leaving it open for something else entirely.

Rules Edition(s)
Original electronic
Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.
Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
