Five years ago, you and your companions separated to search for lost clerical magic without any luck. Now you all have returned to Esmeltaran where you meet a strange nomadic couple, wielding a powerful staff. Rumors have spread that the staff has the capability to save the lands and restore clerical magic. All the while, Draconians begin to ravage the lands while they search for this Blue Crystal Staff. Can our heroes restore the lost clerical powers and save their land?

Dragonlances in Faerûn: DL1 Dragons of Despair is a complete overhaul of the original 1st edition module. This conversion turns the original module into 5th Edition and Forgotten Realms.

There are many things that don't fully convince me in this adaptation.

1 The Price
4,49€ and 7,20€ (I'm european and I visualize prices in €) are a price too high for this procucts with no art (at least in the preview), compared both to same products of the same kind (Classic Modules Today: 1,77€) and the original DLs sold here in pdf for 4,52€, all containing a lot of text and beautiful images.
Now someone could argue there is stuff for Fantasy Ground too inside, but I don't use FG so why should I pay for stuff I don't use? Why the author didn't make 2 version to sell separately? A cheaper version for pen&paper and a high priced version for those who want to use it with Fantasy Ground.

2 Why Faerun?
Dragonlance is the world made specifically for these adventures, why trying to put them into the FR? I know new players are playing mostly in modules from WOTC settled in Faerun but this is a product made for old school players who already own the original...See more

I noticed the comment that you successfully play tested in Mesa, AZ. I am a resident of Mesa and wonder if there are any opportunities to observe one of these module being run? I am newly returned to the game and just starting out in 5e.

My group is old school AD&D and used to playing with miniatures and maps. We are jumping into 5th ed. and looking at trying Fantasy Grounds since many of us travel for work. Will your files work with both a PC/Mac? Sorry, this may be a silly question but none of us have done the remote gaming before nor played 5th Ed

Not silly at all. Yes, my files will work for both the Windows and Mac version of Fantasy Grounds. Fantasy Grounds is perfect for your scenario. Might I suggest looking up Fantasy Grounds College on the internet. They are full of awesome people who can help you learn Fantasy Grounds for free.

I own all DL original (paper) DL modules, and have been thinking of running these in 5e, but set in Krynn, not Faerun. Would there be anything in here that could help me with this? You mention there is a conversion guide, but does that strictly mean converting it into a FR-setting, or is there also generic stuff in there like stats for Draconians and other krynn-specifc monsters?

Draconians are totally not updated for 5E, they're merely replaced by Lizardfolk with some spells, while the Player Handbook,in the pages describing the Dragonborn race, clearly states:
In the Dragonlance selling, the followers of the evil goddess
Takhisis learned a dark ritual that let them corrupt the
eggs of metallic dragons. producing evil dragonborn called
draconians. Five types of draconians. corresponding to the
five types of metallic dragons, fought for Takhisis in the War
ofthe Lance: auraks (gold). baaz (brass), bozak (bronze).
kapak (copper). and sivak (silver). In place of their draconic
breath weapons, they have unique magical abilities."

Instead you merely replaced them with Lizardfolks without either giving them their after death powers of turning into stone, turning into acid or explode.

I love the Realms, and I love Dragonlance, so I am seriously considering grabbing the bundle. But, I have a nitpick based on the preview file of DL1. It's stated that the time period should be -6700DR. It's also suggested to replace the DL god Hiddukel with Cyric. However, Cyric doesn't exist until 1358 DR, 8,058 years after the suggested setting.

Oh wow! That is an awesome catch I don't think I would have found. That's what I love about this community. We all help each other out. I know more about Dragonlance than I do about Forgotten Realms so I had to learn a lot about the world of Faerun when I started this project. If you decide to pick it up, let me know what you think!

are you going to complete this series? DL1 - 16?
Customer avatar

Absolutely! I am about three weeks away from finishing DL4 and it's a doozy! So far Elohir and I are at 93 maps all together and we're still making the last few. I might skip DL5 and come back to it as it's only a reference module, that and I'm already tantalizing my brain with ideas on the Battlesystem for DL6.

Hi! Kind of confused here...I am new to DnD and running random short one offs with my friends (5e). At the same time I am listening to the dragonlance books on audible and was wondering if this is what I could purchase to run that story with my group... I like the dragonlance setting over forgotten realms and didn't know based on some of the comments/questions if that was possible or if there were other things I would need to do. We play with pencil and paper and teeter between using minis and maps and mind theater depending on the game flow. Is this all I need? Will it include a guide similar to some of the adventure league modules I have bought?

Those are great questions; I hope I can paint a clear picture. So first off, due to copyrights, both the Fantasy Grounds module and the PDF do not include the story. You must buy the PDF of the original DL1 Dragons of Despair. Since you would be running pen/paper, my PDF I offer would be a companion to the original module. You would still run the campaign using the original module, and then use my pdf to convert the old rules into 5th edition rules. My PDF includes a story structure to follow along with the original module that will let you know when there are changes to be made for 5th edition. It also includes updates to all the NPCs, monsters, and items so you have stats that are more inline with 5th Edition. It also includes stats for the pre-generated heroes for your players to play in 5th edition. You would still need to draw the maps from the original module onto a grid-roll out. I include maps with the Fantasy Grounds module, but you would need FG to use them. My PDF also explains how to convert DL1 into...See more

Version 3.0 is now out! The Fantasy Grounds module now features 12 new maps from the up and coming Cartographer Elohir! I also added a divider line at the bottom of story links for quicker pasting of the story.

I just released version 2.5. Lots of minor tweaks and improvements. Biggest change were the maps. I remade two maps using CC3 and resized many of the other maps. BONUS: Another new class is now available... Noble

I'm proud to announce v2.0 has arrived. After working through a few more of these, it was time to rework DL1 all over. I adjusted all the monsters stats and abilities, added notes about the monsters (though you'll need the MM or Volo's to see images), specified between enemy and friend, added enemies to maps, replaced Gully Dwarves with Svirfneblin, added Deep Gnome sub race, fixed typos, fixed links, and sprinkled pixie dust on it. I also redid the Player's Handbook module so it can be used with any of these products. Finally, I rewrote the PDF Conversion Guide and fixed errors in there as well. There's probably more I did, but I'm exhausted. Enjoy!

Hi Jason. I just purchased this and great to see. I'm old enough to actually own the original. So I might have a problem with the copy/paste. I better start typing!

That's awesome to hear from a fellow fan. That means a lot! I have the original too. I used it heavily when making this product. It's nice to own one of them. Stay posted because in a week, I'll be updating this module to v2.0 with all new and improved toys to play with!

Well I have now created the full story. There were a few teething issues. E3-45. You had Map in the title, but I think you really need it in E3-46a. I added in the Epilogue to the story which I couldn't find. I used the images of the PCs as portraits, even though they weren't that great, but added a bit. I'm just going through again to make sure I've amended all the names etc. I will also extract some of the images and put them to the campaign where I can. But overall I'm pretty pleased with the result so far.

Thank you so much. I'm glad to know people can enjoy this. Thanks for pointing that out. I just put out v2.0, so hopefully that'll fix most of the errors you might find.

After play-testing the next module in the series, I found that having a Player's Module would come in handy. So now included is a second Fantasy Grounds module made for the Players to have quick access to the new races, class, background, pregenerated heroes, and items.

Rules Edition(s)
Original electronic
Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.
Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
